Thread Starter
I don't understand why the 9300, which also had a 17 inch screen and 256mb graphics card, gets 4 hours battery life and the e1705 barely lasts half that! I thought the napa platfrom was supposed to be more energy efficient. Is this still due to the usb bug, or is it something else, and is dell going to address it? I am going to wait until the Merom chip comes out to get this model, but will Merom give the napa platform a longer battery life?

i got roughly 2 hours when i set to max battery and don't use the wireless and cut down the brightnes of the screen and only listen music when i am on the school (woow what a long sentence)

Why does everyone have to worry so much about battery life when you can just buy more genuine Dell batteries for cheap on ebay? Like I said, 9 cells for $71 each shipped direct from Dell on ebay.

because it matters....thats the whole point of portables, and the WHOLE centrino lineup1!!!

Y, the battery life is dissapointing.

But the importance of Centrino and Core is, it proves Intel's Pentium 4 design (deep pipeline) is a total failure . They are first used in mobile, but will be used on desktops also.
Centrino/Core is a totally new CPU design by a Israle company. Same or better performance than P4 with only half the clock speed, so finally Intel catch up with AMD.

2 to 2.5 hours with light usage - 7800 256mb Geforce and Powermizer set to MAXIMUM POWER SAVINGS under battery mode. Windows XP power profile is set to laptop. And used MSCONFIG, deleted things in startup, and got rid of some things at startup in Windows services to reduce load.

Also have Bluetooth and Modem disabled in BIOS.

Screen set to MAX brightness. 80 Watt battery

Who wants this awesome screen with light so DIM you will think your looking at a 20W bulb.

But I LOVE MY E1705

Done some testing that seems to suggest that cutting brightness from full to level 3 only saves around 2.5W/hr. Not worth it!
