Craziest 700m keyboard problem

I have the craziest problem on my 700m thats been going on for months. So any help would be appreciated.

What happens is this. I'll be using the computer like normal but after a few hours the keyboard stops functioning normally. Like if i press the "E" key it will drop down the edit menu as if i pressed the "menukey+E" key. F will open File, S will save and so on. I can reboot and everything is fine for a day or so but it comes back so I dont know whats going on.

The solutions ive tried seem were this. I reinstalled from the restore disk. I did a clean install of XP Pro. And currently im running media center after formatting the whole thing. I had dell send a new keyboard to replace it and with all these solutions the same problem keeps appearing.

Dell support is horrible so theyve been useless so i'm turning to the pros. So has anyone heard of something like this?

Weird, not a problem with my 710m. I hope you get it solved.

it is acting as if you have your scroll lock on. try pressing the "function" key and F4 and see if it helps.

Its not a scroll lock problem or anything. its just a random issue thats been haunting my laptop for months so i'm just checking the boards to see if anyone else has experienced it. i'd like to get this looked at by dell but since its pretty tough to even describe the problem to knowledgable users then its pretty much impossible to get anything through to the techs.

I have a weird problem with my 700m's keyboard, too...every so often, i'll be typing, and all of a sudden it'll act like caps lock is stuck on when it isn't. So when I do turn caps lock on, everything types in lowercase. Then after a little while, it just stops and goes back to normal. I've reinstalled Windows numerous times and it still randomly does it...I can't explain it, lol. Maybe some 700m keyboards are just screwy, heh.

my original post stated what i've tried already. they sent a replacement keyboard and it didnt solve it. and the same issue came back after several format/install of XP home, pro and MCE.

Anyway, i guess im just stuck with this problem because dell support is of no help so i cant do anything. Oh well...

if software isnt the issue, and the keyboard has been replaced...

id try a new motherboard from dell. sometimes you have to get on the phone with them, and embelish the truth a little (:

I've had a similar problem, only it seems like for me that the alt key gets locked up, thus hitting f=file, trying to double clik to open file leads to properties page, etc. Normally when this happens i just reboot, but recently I tapped my right alt key and it fixed the problem, implying for me it may be a keyboard issue. in your case, since you got the keyboard replaced...
