Costco has a nice deal (about $200 off) for a customized Pavilion DV1000t. Anyone order from them? Do they just pass the order on to HP to build?

I ordered my dv8000t from them . It was a little late arriving but I blame That on hp . I think I saved about 100.00 verses ordering it from hp

and another plus, you can take it back for any reason you want within one year and get a free upgrade. you can't go wrong buying from costco.

I have always heard good things about Costco. If you think it is a good deal, why not go for it.

Not a year. costco policy for pc's is 6 month, no questions asked, full refund. I sent back my
zv8000 Turion, because the weak graphics card.

I agree - nothing really to lose. Plus with the Costco instant coupon, it's about $200 less than the HP website. Plus I can always return it if I don't like it. Do you guys recommend buying the extended warranty from HP? I know warranties are a money maker for manufacturers, but I've seen how desktop components can die for no reason - not sure how laptop components last in relation.

I'm going with an EW, with "accident" protection..

On the Hardware aspect of it, While they may not generate as much heat as a desktop, I would think that most laptops have even poorer airflow /cooling than a desktop PC due to the small internal cavity you're talking about inside a laptop, plus how close the components are to one another....

Another thing to consider is laptops are subjected to greater vibration /shock, temperature changes...

Desktop PC sits on the desk, doesn't go anywhere....

Doesn't get left in the car when it's -30 - Or +150 degrees...

Another thing to consider is on a desktop PC parts are pretty much generic.... On a laptop/notebook you have ZERO options on where to buy a replacement motherboard, video "card". Which means big $$$$$ when you need a part... Those parts for the most part ONLY fitting "that" model, or a few models, for that (1) year they made those models. Parts from a previous year, or the next year not fitting...

PS: On the heat issue.... over time a laptop that has an internal fan will suck in alot of crap-ola clogging up the cooling system... Desktops suck in stuff too, but at least they are not sitting on your lap, or car seat right "in" the dirt so to speak.

dv8000z?.... May I ask what you replaced it with?... and did you return it to the store, or ship it back to them? If shipped did they pick up the shipping?

I think he traded up to a 8000t . as far as returns you just have to take it back to any costco store .

wearenotalone,

Sorry I am late to answer, but I've been in Europe. I did not purchase yet another laptop since i returned the 8000z. I was looking for a Turion ML-40 Targa Traveller, made in Germany,
with the x700 128MB graphics card, but it was not on stock, so I am considering the DV8000t or the new PortableOne FX series which is to come out in about two weeks. Don't know much about the laptop yet, except the screen is probably Asus.

Costco is awesome, for laptops/computers the return policy is six months no questions asked.

Anything else (like HDTV's, etc) it's one year.
