Area 51m 5500 - Video Card & BIOS

Thread Starter
Just some quick questions.

Had my Go 5700 crap out on me, first I was getting blue vertical lines, but now I get absolutely nothing but black.

It has been suggested to try resetting the AGP to 4x. How do I do this.

Any other suggestions as to troubleshoot whether or not this is a vid card issue or a MoBo issue?

Thank is advance.

For the AGP – there should be a program for that on your Utility CD in the AGP driver folder. (AGPutility or something like)
Other possibility - Powerstrip (AlienAdrenaline) -> options- adapter information.

Well, simply go steal a friends video card and test it out.

BIOS

No 16/32bit Software can change the AGP bus speed. (None that I know of.)

I think I have the same

Were there 40 lines in sets of two? If that is the case you might be having the same problem as me. I am repairing an alienware area51m 5500 for a friend and sometimes it gives me blue moving vertical lines and other times it is blank. I took the RAM out to see if the BIOS was any good and got no memory error beep so it must be either the motherboard or the BIOS for this one. It will not load Hirems boot CD or any Linux live CD and it appears that the BIOS does not post at all. Try booting a live CD to see if you can blindly hear it log in. If that fails, try removing the memory like I did. You can also try hooking the laptop up to a monitor to test if the video ribbon cable is bad. Sometimes those creep loose or corrode which is usually indicated by vertical lines. Do you ever get any beep codes or anything else?
