I have an old window xp pro disk. I just broke down and bought a new windows xp pro with SP 2, however at the end of the installation it freezes. When the Windows XP screen is up with the bar running under it. Do I need to update my BIOS? Ver- 2.01.0 Build 39. I can't think of anything else to do. Please help.
Thanks, TWA

Just a shot in the dark, but did you disable the card reader in the BIOS? I haven't installed XP on my machine since I've had it- always run it w/ the factory install. But I seem to recall that not disabling the card reader would result in the main HD not being labelled as the C drive. Possibly your install is going to the G drive or some other label and it gets to a point where it wants to go to C by default, but it hooks up trying to read the empty card reader.

I could be totally off, but I figure it's worth a try.

I did disable that. It seems to stall when it is about done with the installation, right before the login screen. I think it must be a hard ware issue of some kind.

If you have not updated your bios in a long time then this is the problem. My 8790 is currently being fixed so I do not know what version I have but I know SP2 has a bios conflict with older BIOS versions and the error sounds similar. Search some posts and I am sure you will find the answer or just upgrade the BIOS and give it a shot.
