v4000t - x700 overheating.

Hey all. Since I've got my v4000t I've been so busy I havnt been able to upgrade it to my standards. So far I have just 1.25gb of ram in it. I play WOW and HL2. My problem is when I have all the settings on max on HL2 it gets really warm. After awhile it shuts down....just turns off. I get no warning or errors. I've installed NHC and MBM. I know my gpu gets hot, its the x700...now Im wondering whats a good cooling pad for a 15.4". Also will loweing the graphic settings ingame help? I figure it will put less of a strain on my x700. Secondly should I install artic silver?? I know i can access the gpu and process or with no problem...im good at taking things apart and putting the back together. Thanks

i had the sam problem, i picked up an ANTEC cooling pad from circuit city , it doesn't fit quite right, but it gets the job done.

Cool, I just orderd the Coolmaster Notepal. It was $55 after taxes, I wanted to spend abit on a good cooling pad that fits and looks nice. I'm also looking up on NHC to undervolt the unit...im sure that will help. Ill let everyone know how this works. Thanks EyeHawk ^_^

The intense heating will generally occur during the first 2-3 weeks of operation for a new HP/Compaq (the so called break-in period).

My system would heat up considerably (though it never shut down) during intense heavy GPU use (8-14 hr sessions), now it does the same 14hr + sessions with no extreme heating (no dragon breath air coming out the fan exhaust port...LOL)

Though Coolers are always a plus. until the onset of summer and air conditioned rooms )

I think you better have HP check your laptop out. I have a DV4000, don't know if its exactly or the same as V4000. It has a X700 inside as well. I was able to clock in 6 hours of Oblivion Elder Scroll with medium to high settings. Same with COD2 and Doom, I max as much setting as I possibly can of course, at playable max graphics.

Never heard of such thing. What is physically changed during that period of time. That may only happen to Ferrari (not even Acer's Ferrari).

I am also using an Antec cooler for my DV4000 with x700. When I am running video convertion with full CPU power in my office, it would reach 72C within an hour. When I am running the same thing with the Antec cooler at home, it is stablized at around 57C. The room temperature at home is around 5C lower than my office though.

* * * * *

Regarding the above, check into overclocking and the theories about the "break-in" period.
