About to purchase an i8600 and i was wondering what you all considered more important-having a 1.7 compared to a 1.6 centrino or having a wuxga compared to a wsxga? And, how will i see the difference between the processors...how will it be apparent that one is faster? Will programs run better, faster, etc. Thanks!

I'd go for the WUXGA screen, especially since you're only choosing between the 1.6 and 1.7 GHz processors. To me, a lesser screen on a hi-end notebook is like having a state-of-the-art home theater receiver but only using Radio Shack speakers.
But, that's just me.

You're absolutely right JSwriter. To be honest, I defy someone to tell the difference in a blind test between a 1.6 and 1.7 centrino. Unless you're just running benchmarks day and nite , the real world difference is little to none.

1.7 and 1.6 makes little difference other than cost. Screen size is a matter of preference since WUXGA is 1920x1200 you will strain your eyes but will garuntee good quality over WSXGA screens which run at 1680x1050 size.

Do both...that's what I did!

Actually, definitely do the screen over the 1.7 processor. you can actually pick up the 1.7 processor down the road and pop it in if you really want. Prices will drop once Dothan comes out. On the other hand, you are going to be in a tough spot if you try to upgrade the screen down the line.

Thanks a lot everyone! I know there have been numerous articles about this...but can't you just make the resolution different? Also, for games, can't you do the same thing and just have the resolution smaller so the game will play the same as if you had a worse screen? Thanks again

Another reason to go for a wuxga:
For Dell, if you choose wsxga you might get hitachi one. However, since hitachi not producing wuxga one. You sure ganna get one samsung or sharp.

Hitachi Produces 2 Types of WSXGA screens but only one is listed. They also produce WUXGA which is also unlisted. Samsung produces 2 types of WUXGA screens but lists only 1. I cant verify the hitachi 2nd wsxga type but i can verify th eexistance of 2 samsung wuxga screens and the wuxga hitachi screen
