FOr some odd reason, benchmarks show that the w3j doesn't keep up with the 8200 at all

That is a 20% increase, which is absolutely measureable

Well, the 8204 has a 2GHz processor vs. a 1.83GHz, 2GB of RAM vs. 1GB, and perhaps the W3J has a 128MB X1600 (I think there's another Asus that does, and scores lower) while the 8204 has a 256MB X1600.

So, I'm not sure that it's apples to apples, at least from a benchmarking perspective. Of course, given all that, it points out how the 8204 is still the specs leader...

The benchmarks were performed over on the Asus forum at notebookreview.com from a w3j that CanadaSys received. He scored 3800

You answered TaY's question before I could post again. Faster CPU, double the ram, and twice the video memory - not hard to imagine why the 8204 scores higher!

Actually, I thought that was TaY's point, as well!

Actually, the W3j that was benchmarked by Danny from Canadasys had a 1.66ghz Core Duo and only 512mb RAM, though still had the 256mb x1600 (and scored ~3850).

The production unit will have the 1.83ghz Core Duo and 1x1gb 667mhz RAM, so with final driver tweaks and these upgrades I think you will see 3dmark scores that are quite close. Oh, and remember, the Asus was running stock drivers and stock clock settings, and was a pre-production unit; the 8204 scores closer to 4200 with stock drivers.

my 8200 scored 4500 with stock drivers. 3dmark scores depend greatest on the bios clock settings for the card. since updating bios, 3dmark score went down 100 pts when they lowered the mem settings

you wont see a 700 pt jump from a MINOR processor boost and a half gig of ram.
