When playing BF1942 on my S705 (P4 2.4ghz, 512mb PC2100, 64mb NVidia 5600go) I get horrible lag with everything turned all the way down or off, including all sounds. Any ideas?

Could one of you guys with a 5205-S705 confirm something for me?

I'm looking to buy the TV tuner from a 5205-S705 for my 5205-S119 (the last notebook in the 5205 series.) As far as I understand, the TV tuner in the S705 is inserted into the Style Bay, a secondary bay for accessories like a secondary battery, hard drive, CD/DVD burner, media reader, etc...

I need to know the Toshiba Part Number that is on the Style Bay TV tuner. One of you with a 5205-S705 needs to remove your TV tuner and look at the P/N on it for me , OK? It is quite easy to remove. There should be a small sliding switch on the right side toward the bottom of the TV tuner. With you laptop shut down, slide the switch until the TV tuner pops out. Then you can pull it out and look for the P/N on it. Please reply to this post, or email your response to me at jhirsche1@yahoo.com

And in case you need to know, Toshiba has not been much help to me in finding out this information.

Are your power saving features turned off? Like is your GPU running at full speed not battery optimized, same goes for CPU?

You could also try reinstalling the game, and making sure it's patched up. I had issues with UT2K3 and reinstalled and everything went smooth as silk.

I've reinstalled the game, the OS, even low-leveled the entire HD to see what would happen. I'm not using the Toshiba Windows, and yes, I have installed all required drivers etc. All power saving features are set to performance.

maybe coz ur laptops heating up???? The 5205-s703 / 5205-s705 are known to have heating probs .... so maybe the heats causing the problem??

Pentium 3s lockup and Pentium 4s slow waaay down when overheated; >80c I believe.
Toms hardware actually tested this and has the video.

My 5205-S705 slows down then the video freezes after a while if i am not in a 72-76 degree f room with the laptop on a table. Toshiba's support answer "buy a new laptop we don't make those anymore, in fact we stopped making them 3 months after release".

Use forced air (canned air) to blow out the cpu heatsink port from the back, this may help a little.

i have a 5205-s703... and for my laptop the probs the thermal paste..ive given it to 3 technicians in 3 different countries and they all said that they "reapplied the thermal paste" and that has definately helped.. it reduced my average idling cpu temp of 72 degrees celcius to 47 degrees celcius .. though the temp increases as time passes and after a month my idling temp goes up to around 60 degrees celcius and keeps increasing.... .

Toshiba stopped making 5205-s703 and 5205-s705 very soon coz of the heating problem...

I have a 5205-S703/4. I got a Nexxus heatpipe cooler for it. The laptop runs *noticeably* cooler, and the fan comes on much less. I stress this notebook for work after having installed two 7200 RPM drives in it + 1 GB RAM in it myself, lots of I/O and CPU-intensive work, and I never get any lockups/slowdowns - the wrist-rest doesn't even get hot when the notebook sits on the cooler. I would definitely recommend you invest the $20-$30 for this (this cooler is passive - no wires or fans, but it absolutely works).

Does the S119 have these problems too? Or has Toshiba stopped selling that one too?
