All I have to say is that they'd better not underclock it. And Toshiba does have a reputation of underclocking their graphics cards. On my old 5205, the Go 5600 was underclocked to 200MHz, mainly because it didn't have much cooling to speak of, and was right under the optical drive.

Well, if it is underclocked, can it be overclocked without issue? I'm seriously considering byuing one.. I just cancelled my order for one of the new HP business books with the x1600.

Depends on the system, and the adequacy of the cooling system. My 5205 couldn't go a single MHz above 200 without dying horribly, whereas my new KN1, many Dell 6000s and Asus z71vs have been overclocked considerably without problems. Alas, Toshiba has a reputation for not adequately engineering their cooling systems, but who knows with this new model? You might get lucky, and it might even be a full-speed 7900.

it can be overclocked likely, unless its hardware locked. the other thing with overclocking is that it will absolutely void their warranty

I've said before that Toshiba (USA) seems to always somehow muck up the configuations. I wish I could talk with those knuckle heads who come up with these configs.....

For example, a customizable P100 with T2600 2.16 and 100gb 7200rpm HD (all very nice) but only DDR2 533 and Go7600. What's up with that? Then offer a P105 as a "gamer's pc" with a Go7900gs 256mb and DDR2 667 (again very nice), but hamstring it with a 4200rpm hard drive and DDR2 533 (what were they thinking?...I know, must keep the price under $1999.99).

Toshiba, just offer a preconfiged and/or customizable P100/105 with up to T2700, 7200rpm HD, DDR2 667 and Go 7900gs (put the gtx in there while you're at it) all together... Toshiba wake up! You get it about 80% right then drop the ball. People will buy this, just don't over price it.

the market for that is too niche and toshiba doesnt want to compete against dell, AW, voodoo, hypersonic, and countless other boutique companies cause the market for people who will pay huge amounts for a gaming laptop is so small and the competition is feirce. it doesnt make sense for them to offer that sort of a config, especially cause that adds alot to their supply and all side since they then need to stock all those parts then for warranty reasons.

besides with those specs it will still be the most powerful thing in the bestbuy when you want to get a new laptop, so to the average consumer there who wants powerful and all tis a great choice.

Doesn't look bad at all to me. And the 160 GB sata drive is nothing to complian about. I haven't heard of a 160GB 7200rpm drive being in production yet (the biggest offerend by Toshiba is 100gb), and I don't know about a 5400 (the biggest offered is a 120gb). But that big of a HDD will have such a high density that it should be pretty much on par in speed with a smaller 5400 maybe even some of the 7200s.

If the drive is what's holding you back, get the drive you want form newegg and throw the 160 into a usb enclosure (assuming they make USB-SATA enclosures). That'll be some nice backup space or sell very nicely on ebay!

Well, is there something else I should be looking at for under 2 grand with similar or better specs?? Something I can play games on as well as work on? I've been looking for a month, this is a step up from an NX9420 right??? I looked at the dell and sagers but the dell seems kind of huge, and I don't like the dell.. customer support/visit to india thing, and the sager seems good spec wise but the quality seems hit or miss from what I read... Am I going in the wrong direction???

This site says the card will be 7900GS clocked at 375/500. My memory isn't that great but I think those clock speeds will put it just below the 7800 GTX (400/550 I think). But, whenever nVidia has made an adjustment to their lineup, they have a reason. For example, two 7800 GTXs run cooler than one 6800 ultra in a desktop. So, would I be out of line if I assume a 7900 will get much better battery life than a 7800? Probably not. Also, if you add in the Intel chip and the wussy hard drive, I'm betting this will be a very nice laptop with ample power yet have very good battery life. It should also be mentioned that the 6800 had a higher core clock speed than the 7800, but the 7800 is still faster due to other architectural properties. Check this chart for more http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=170

Other notes, available for pre-order on Amazon already http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...78515?n=541966

Why does it only come with 533mhz RAM? Aren't core duo processors set up for 667 mhz RAM?

All that aside, to me this looks like a great alternative to Dell, though it might not quite beat out a Sager/Clevo. Especially since the 7800 isn't available in the E1705 or i9400 right now. Anyone know of an actual for sale date on these?

it all depends on what toshiba decides, like the first gen of the m40 that didnt have ddr2 ram, despite the processor typically being paired with ddr2 toshiba decided for whatever reason not to use it and so we didnt see it. it may be the same with this model it may not we cant be sure till its in someones hands.

I like the leds in new p100

That Cnet review says April 2 for a ship date. I personally don't believe them, maybe we should ask a Best Buy person or something.
And Toshiba's website has it listed with 667mhz RAM, so my question is answered.
