This bothers me ...

I have checked out a Mobile PIV 1800/400 which, as aspected, did not work.
I found the idea of the overclocked FSB interesting - thanks to hifi311. So I tried to run my PIV3,06/533 with fast RAM Modules. I got some MDT PC3200 CL2.5 modules that are fast and reliable and guess what.
Checked it under Linux without x-server, ran stable for half a day. RAM check did not show any errors.
But then booting into Windows it crashed after about 5 minutes. Linux stable, without X. Running X Linux also crashes after 2 to 10 minutes.
It seems to me that the gpu is also affected by 'overclocking' the FSB. It could work if better cooling for the gpu would be installable - but I do not think so.
Im a really turned off by Toshibas information politics. Why do the build a feature in the BIOS to support a CPU (knows the microcode, heatmanagement), but do not adjust the parameters for the rest of the machine. That is bad work.
I will give my A35 to my girlfriend and buy a new one. And one thing is clear: NO Toshiba
. Had their machines for about 10 years and it is time for a change now. It is not the first time that I am unhappy with their support. Hope some other manufactures do better information poltics.
Which manufacturers do you prefer, right now I am looking for the Dual-Cores from HP and Samsung. Good first impressions.
