benchmarks for G1 - Page 2

Dashby, read my posts clearly. From the top 1st message.

I said the F2 is NOT a gaming machine, like the G1 is meant to be. The G1 is meant to be a gaming machine because of its specs.

I said WXGA is a personal choice. WarCraft III is available at your local best buy, comp usa, wal mart etc... Go buy a copy and you will see the magic of it.

I don't know how LCD screens work, but I know WXGA technology is no different from XGA or SXGA LCD techonology, other than the obvious difference of aspect ratio.

Although WC3 will run on WXGA, it will look stretched. I have run WC3 on widescreen (Apple Powerbook).

I am not a beer drinker so I wouldn't know the weight of 2 cans of Buds. Never been a fan of beer, more of a wine person.

As for believing ABS's marketing strategy? Calling their product categorization marketing is an insult to marketing. I am pretty sure ABS guys know what the 4 Ps or the 3 Cs of marketing are!

Answering your question about my knowledge of marketing, I have two B.A's in Economics and Psychology. I also studied marketing at NYU's Stern School of Business. I think it's fair to say I know at least a tiny bit of marketing. Look up Stern in US Week's College Rankings. Heck, my job is sales and marketing.

As for benchmarking, it's like why people dyno their cars. It's a hobby and hobbists generally don't have a reason why other than enjoyment.

Is it just me or you project a lot of unwarranted negativity into my comments? Is everyone else reading the messages the same way Dashby is? If so, I'll rewrite my messages better.

Have I ever knocked on G1 once? Quote me and prove me wrong.

And of course I can throw the question right back at you, have you owned a F2? Then any comparison/opinion you generate are based on subjectivity, rather than objectivity.

There is no point in arguing these points with you since 4:3 vs 16:9 is personal choice, as is which games are played. But most of all, what each person wants is different. I can sit here and argue with you all day but we will never have an answer here.

Thread Starter

I apologize

I was probably defending a composite of threads I've seen on this board criticizing the WXGA. Just threw it at you, because you're the only one out here that really makes discerning replys and wanted to get your attention. It's an old management ploy I learned in academia, abrasive thought-stimulation.

Seriously, though, I'm trying to encourage everyone that was in the same situation I was in a month ago (looking to buy a new notebook) to be open-minded and let their own personal tastes make the decision. See, I went through the apprehensive times, when I was reading all these comments by anonymous ppl on these forums stating how this technology is best (i.e. you've got to have at least SXGA+..you've got to have fast hard-drive..you've got to have M-class chip..you've got to have a minimum of 1gig HD..etc) and I doubted my decision. I then began to realize most ppl were basing their comments on the biasness they had for their own system. And, truthfully, it's human nature to do this. A lot of folks out here are just showing their natural tendencies to defend their personal decisions. Unfortunately, that can lead to bad advice.

Looking back now, with the information I had then, and what I've learned since...I would buy the G1 all over again. Probably would have went with the 7200 rpm hard-drive though.

BTW you seem to have picked up a lot of knowledge yourself from haunting the forums and web-sites out here and are reciting valuable info back. Ppl like you are good for these type forums.

I wouldn't go so far as calling it critique on WXGA. There's nothing "wrong" with it since "right and wrong" is dependent on the viewer using it.

I think it's better if you ask people what they want, and help them understand their own needs. Once they know their needs it's much easier to make decisions.

You should be happy with a G1. It's an awesome machine with a lot of potential (not to mention upgradable CPU). If I were in college or I don't have to travel so frequently I'd get one myself. Unfortunately, weight is the death of a salesman (poor pun on Arther Miller). And you don't need validation from other notebook buyers; you have made your decision.

hey guys.... please stop arguing about 15.4, 16:9 screens!!!

BECAUSE THEY DON'T EXIST!!! the screen is 16:10 which is why you still get black borders when watching 16:9 movies....

sorry... couldn't hold it in, just read too many "my 16:9 wxga" posts on this board and it bugs me all the time. lol.

Yes, I am not worthy oh might LCD god.
It's weird...the official specification of WXGA states 1280*720, similar to the HDTV resolution of 720P. For some reason LCD makers decided to make 1280*800 screens and call them WXGA. That is just a distortion of the spec.
WXGA is also spec'd at 1366*768...it just gets more curious...

There are mysteries in life...

I still wonder about Britney Spear's bust size...
Anyone successfully OC'd their CPU?

PS. Britney's measurements are virtually nonexistent.
Hence why it's a mystery. Have you seen that flash animation on the boobsize of Britney?

And No, No OCing CPU on the lappy.
Hmm...why is OC'ing lappy CPU's hard? For those that has VIA chipsets, I would imagine it as easy as modifying the BIOS setting: CPU multiplier.
Most notebook manufacturers don't put BIOSes that allow tweaking into their machines. Not one I am aware of anyways.
