M90 is Here - Page 2

Well just gona trade the 9400 for the M90 since the 7800go is delaying the all process.

Holy crap.
if you wana go from 2 gig to 4.
4 GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM [add $2,300 or $68/month2]
uh? Different Mobo for 4 gig?

humm...so Screen is non glossy .

So if you had to compare this to a 9400 with lets say a 7900 go(if it becomes an option)..what's better?
And I realy would like to see some benchmarks for the FX card....because I'm getting conflicting reports about gaming performance.

Just when I was thinking of extending the CompleteCare on my M60. I've gotta think twice now.. the extended warranty is only $74 and I could see myself using this laptop for another year without issue. What would you guys do.. wait another year or has technology advanced enough to warrant upgrading now?

Thanks!

But the 7900 GTX is 50% better in a few of the specs

RRF985, I just realized this, to answer your question, if you want dual channels memory then its gonna have to be 2 DIMM's ( example, 2x512mb or 2x gb DIMM's ) I would go that route, more horsepower instead of single channel DIMM.

wow, look at the power requirments of those FX GPUs.

battery life?

The warranty on my D600 is up in 2 weeks and Dell wanted $249 to extend it for 2 years. That's pretty outrageous to me. Anyway the new M65/M90 laptops are pretty tempting, but the Core Duos are just an interim processor. The Merom CPUs are really the ones worth waiting for and they should be out in the fall.

I am seriously lusting after the M90, if only it was a 15.4" form factor.
Dell are still offering the M70 as the 15.4" form factor with great graphics. It is a really good notebook, still. The new M65 has integrated graphics - not a competitor to the M70 at all, nor is the M90, as it is so much bigger. I would appreciate some links to exactly which xtreme-G 84.25s files you need? How much difference do they make? I use Dell's AO0 video driver, as AO5 caused blue screens. By the way, I have just upgraded the M70 system bios from AO3 to AO4, and the whole system is so much faster.

The new Precision M65 is said to come with an Nvidia Quadro FX 350M 512MB Turbocache. Any idea how that compares to the GeForce line?

Edler Scrolls IV: Oblivion runs like a champ on my M70 (84.25, 325Mhz GPU 650Mhz Mem)

16-19fps outside
32-43fps inside
14fps minimum, 63fps maximum
1280x1024 HDR, max terrain, trees, buildings

From fraps. That compares pretty well with the 7800s and 6800s in the consumer Dells.

To play the games u need to download the modded drivers? or it fully work with the nvidia original drivers?

It will work with original drivers, but with modded drivers it may work better (the same as 7900). Thou I'm not so sure for oblivion. It seems Oblivion with max viewing distance is polygon-limited, and that mean that Quadro drivers could actually work better (especially with 4AA/8AF)

From what I heard the new XPS M1710 appears to have docking capablity as well. . . . .

According to what Dell tells us Field Techs on the DCSE website, the M90 and the XPS M1710 will both support the DPort and DDock docking stations.

I don't care what they say about it: to me it's heressy to offer a Precision based on an Inspiron.

Latitude and Precision were about having extra goodies. Like modular bay, trackpoint and such. At least they support the docking options.
don't you think it's more the XPS is based off the Precision instead of the other way around? (since it's the only inspiron to have the docking capabilities)
they are the same architecture with different marketing names i believe

7900 gtx and Quadro 2500M is almost identical, like i said many times nVidia focking us with numbers 25000 7800 7900 and so on
post #38 of 47
They don't think that way. They take an existing model, tweak it a bit and sell it as a Precision (or XPS). They did it with the D800, D610, D810 and now with the D820.

That's because it's expensive to design a notebook from scratch.

I wonder why they dropped the ball this time. 7300/7400 is really a joke for a Precision (M65). I think they should consider a FireGL V5200 (X1600).
I dont think they dropped the ball. They just want to stop gaming ppl buying
anything else than xps. Lattidudes/Precisions are not meant for gaming so
why offer gaming GPUs on them? The present selection is more than enough
for any business user.

You want gaming? Buy the XPS or M90 (which is as or even more expensive than
the XPS). Thats the way I would do it if I were trying to earn money with laptops.
The marginal ppl who always want the latest and fastest will also pay money
for it.

I am not sure why people are worried about the M90 for games. It's a professional machine. While I know many on here know tons more about graphic cards than I ever will, I haven't seen it mentioned.

Quadro cards are optimized for programs like 3D Studio and Maya. They refresh the vector lines in Autocad significantly faster than Geforce cards. You can't compare them based on games - it's like comparing a Land Rover to a Porsche. Both are nice, but made for different things.
(I should note that I have not found the upgrade in cost to high end Quadros worth it, however, in a price-to-performance comparison, but if the machine comes with it, I'll take it).

So, for me, that does primarily 3D work, the M90 looks like a dream. I never, ever play games and could care less about those bench marks. I'll be getting meself one of those babies soon!!
