Xps Gen 2 Oblivion help needed ! - Page 2

I only seem to lag when it loads into a new area. There is a mod over at elderscrolls.com that lowers the grass by half (don't know the details about it) and it made my game run much smoother, while still keeping the grass intact. Haven't tried the .ini that actually makes the grass in clumps (which, judging from screenshots looks good too, because I've seen grass do that in nature).

Anyone else have the guards constantly stutter the last part of "You have my ear, Sir." (Sir Sir is what I hear)

Also, can people please post framerates so we can judge if we're doing something right? I have a stock XPS 2 (see sig) so I need to know what to do to get it as smooth as possible.

Thanks

First of all, upgrading the drivers from 81.xx to 84.25 gave me an additional 15 fps I'd say.
Then I use "bloom" instead of HDR, textures on medium and resolution 12800x800. All other settings I left on medium or close to it.
I get about 60 fps inside, 50 outside, minus 25 respectively when fighting with lots of NPC's.

I find them in real life actually usually very sharp. When running through the most intense grass field (i see grass at max range), i get 17fps MIN, which is rare though, so I'm happy. Other than that, i get ~30-40, hooray, and 102°C nvidia driver. Didn't mess with ini...

@ Blackscreen problem: Our cards can't run HDR just turn that off, sry folks, maybe with the next patch/ driver.
What res is that on?

And I assume you aren't running HDR..
(works fine for me btw)

As far as the black screen thing goes at least...
Not getting anywhere near that as far as fps goes...
I'm lucky to get 22 on autodetect with reduced grass size and a slightly increased res.

And what's even more annoying, it stutters constantly, every step or two it stops for a split second

Stuttering for me was stopped by disabling AA. I have my res at 800x600 though, but no complaints.

Are you guys running the game on external monitors instead of your LCD? I'm seeing 1280X800 and 800x600 posted here. I can't run games on anything other than native resolution (1920x1200) because I can't stand the fuzzy look.

I play on my external 17" at its native resolution of 1280x1024, looks fabulous.

I'm not bothered by the fuzzy look...

Does it even support 1920? Either way, my vision sucks. I was playing at 1280, but it stopping lagging when I switched it to 800.

No external monitor either.

The game supports whatever your video card supports. Truth be told, I'd probably run it on a lower res if I hadn't upgraded to the 7800 go GTX. I'll make do with the dreamy look if it means decent frames per second. But at 800x600 it must look terrible cuz it's a 4:3 aspect ratio on a widescreen display. Hey, if it runs fine for you and you're enjoying the game, that's all that matters.

The grass is a killer. I just put up with the stuttering until a fight starts. Then I hit escape and turn the grass off.

Fight over, grass goes back on.

This is with a 7800GTX running at 1280x800 or some such.

tip for quickly turning grass on and off.

hit tilde (~) to bring up console, type tg, hit tilde again

voila grass is now quickly toggleable.
