D820 Review

Hi everybody

I've been reading this site for some time but only now have decided to register.

There is a review of the D820 on CNET
http://reviews.cnet.com/Dell_Latitud...2.html?tag=sub

I'm seriously looking at getting a D820 to replace my dinosaur (8100) but have some concerns:

*Performance of the GPU for gaming
*Sound quality when ripping music or playing through external speakers/headphones
*Lack of a video out port

I'm not over keen on the Inspirons these days owing to the lack of a pointing stick and the quality of the plastic.

On another note does anybody know why so few notebooks have a pointing stick these days. IMHO they are far better then a touch pad.

coz no1 likes the pointing stick thing, a crappy ibm invention

well d820 is a new product and you won't see any 3d gaming benchmark on these machines for about a month or so

ha-ha - so I'm one of a few. I just find it quicker and more accurate

PC Mag also has a review:

With the test data here including some gaming:

Doesn't look that promising gaming-wise.

TPM? screw that

Ugh. That 512MB Nvidia Quadro NVS 120M looks to be on par with (or slightly worse than) the ATI X1400. I guess that's ok for a business laptop.

The NVS series is based off the 7300/7400.

Yeah I prefer it usually over a touchpad too so you're not the only one.

Yea, I would have a hard time adjusting to a comp without a eraser head.... I love em

I tried the eraser head, and I can see where some folks would like it, but my dexterity was never good enough to use it well. Of course, I don't use the touchpad either, I always bring a bluetooth mouse with me.

Trackpoint is a must to me. I barely if ever use the touchpad.
