Problems installing WoW...

I have the CD version of WoW, and when I try to install it, it goes REALLY slow. I'm talking like 10-15 minutes per disk. The furthest I managed to get was to the third disk. I keep getting this error, something about not being able to read a file called "< unknown >". Any ideas? This installed fine on my desktop, perhaps its this CD drive which is, by the way, louder than a freakin' motorcycle..

edit: Drive is a TssTcorp? CD/DVD R/W

that is strange I am guessing you tried cleaning the disks.

try pushing firmly in on the faceplate when the drive is closed it may be a little lose in the socket.

WoW CDs are tightly compressed, so even small error can ruin installation.
Clean the CDs first, if that doesn't work copy the contents to your harddrive and run installer from there.

I had the same problem with the Dell CDRW that came with my 9300, I replaced the drive with a Pioneer slot load DVD burner and WoW installed without a hiccup after that.

thats why I jammed a NEC in mine. ( see thread in forsale section)

but you can always give dell a call and bitch and tell them you won't accept anything other than a NEC thats what I did

Could use this moment to point out that the introduction of cross changeable parts for notebooks would make this a much easier issue to deal with.

I just hooked up my cousin's external DVD burner and it installed just fine. Soon, I'm gonna try to get one of those pioneer ones.
