i like the portability of the Z63a and the look of it. i like the look of the ensemble better, but it has a few more addons and the warranty so i see why i should go with that one. however, there are more votes for the Z70va, and i'm curious why.

i don't know the pros and cons to these machines other than whats inside of them, so any help would be appreciated.

because Z70VA does all.

The Z63A is based off the W3, except the Z63A has integrated Intel graphics.
If you want to do any decent gaming, the W3V would be a good choice.

The V6 series is in a league of it's own.
Warranty might be something to consider though.
ASUS has great service, but so do some reseller's.
[they also do not pay FedEx Express 2day both ways]

The Z81Sp is a brick and is a great space heater.
No reason to go P4 for a notebook, kinda defeats the purpose of getting one.
The only reason for such a notebook, would be needing extreme performance and not having to be tied down to the desk all the time.

If it were up to me, I'd say the W3V [14" WideScreen w/ATI X700], Z63A [14" WideScreen w/Intel gpu], V6J [core duo 15" w/nVidia 7400], or Z70Va [15.4" WideScreen w/ATI X700].
Rest is up to you... decide what graphics/gaming performance you want [if any], what size notebook you want [to help with screen size and weight decision], etc...

FYI, there are a few V6Va's with IPS [best lcd right now] left.

Im basically in his boat, I want a laptop below 1800ish for college, but im not sure if I should wait for core duo's, or just buy one of these. So im interested to see what you guys are posting. (I'll be majoring in computer science, and I plan on playing half life 2, quake, fear, and games liek that)

P.S. Sorry, im not hijacking this thread, I just wanted to add on my situation for a little insight instead of making my own thread. (I know you guys hate college laptop threads)

We do? I thought most of these were from college students...

Anyways, since the rest of the core duo lineup is due in the next month or so, it wouldn't be a bad idea to wait.
The W3J should be the hottest seller by far...

see, i like the 14" series (w3 and z63a) but i have some choices to make between them.

w3 > z63a
-----------------
ensemble > built-on (looks)
x600 > integrated
built-in bluetooth > dongle

w3 > z63a
-----------------
760 > 750
7200 > 4200
another battery > none
car adapter > none
another ac adapter > none

i won't worry about the Z81Sp then thanks to c9tech, or any other p4 for that matter.

i am looking into the v6 series now that you mentioned it. i think i still may go with the z63a...

look at option D in my first post... i have all the specs, price, and a link.

Woops I ment the W3J (sorry)

to stay on topic the Z81SP is out, it's too big and heavy only 45 minutes of battery life, unless looking to use it as a desktop system.

no i will have a desktop at home.

i think im still on z63a vs. w3v and then the one who wins out of those will go against the z70 because that is still a nice option too, and i get a 15" instead of a 14" which won't dampen portability too much.

if you like the look on ensemble units why don't you wait for W3J because of the core-duo CPU.
If you like Z63A then I recommend Z62F instead, true Z63A looks prettier but Z62F is not that bad looking too and the big plus will be the Core-Duo on Z62F and it's also cheaper.

hmm, point taken. i wouldn't mind having a core duo over a m...

the z62f is really nice as well... it is uglier than the z63v, but performs really well... no built-in bluetooth, but i probably won't use it all the time anyway.

i have went ahead and customized one from discountlaptops.com and here are my specs to tweak:

http://www.discountlaptops.com/index...&model_id=1351
-14.1"
-core duo yonah (2.0) 667 fsb
-artic 5 thermal paste
-2x512 667
-80gb 7200
-dvd+-rw
-wifi
-another battery
-S-Video, VGA, 1 IEEE 1394B Port, 4 USB 2.0 Ports (nice to have)
-another ac adapter
-airline adapter
-free case
-3 year warranty 2 day air round trip shipping
-$1895.00

is there anywhere else i can get this setup for cheaper, or anything i can do without?

It's not a ugly laptop according to DLMunson and he is not a reseller.

actually i heard that as well after reading some reviews because the z63v has issues with sweaty palm stains on the keyboard... and that is not something i want to have...

it seems like that is my best bet. thank you to all!!!
or Asoulintime1982 might jump in and say: why not Z92KM? Turoin64, bluetooth, built-in cam, GPU...ect,.
the Z62F will give u all the power u need for programing and more importantly, compiling and webdesign is quite good on this. as thats what im doing at the moment

as for light gaming, not sure what yer definition of light gaming is. but the GMA950 is weaker than the ATI xpress 200m but not by much.

as for ugly? the black bars in back could go, but otherwise its a hot piece of hardware, not to mention hella cheap. fully configured for 1200-1300
