New Laptop User, Please HELP this Grandma

Hi, I am ready to purchase my first laptop notebook and am in need of some help with exactly what I am looking for and what I need to put in the notebook.
I am into video editing and pictures. That is what my main use for the laptop will be. Putting together family videos with an editing program and making DVD's for the family, with still pictures and video. Then adding music.
I know I will need a lot of hard drive space, and RAM, but how much????
I would like the 17" monitor. but I have no idea on what else to build into this laptop. All the things they ask about sound cards, and things are foreign words to me. So can anyone out there Please let me know which Dell will give me what I will need. I am looking at a price range of about 1500-2500.
If anyone else out there does video editing, I would appreciate any imput.
This is something I want to work on in my spare time no matter where I am at. So need to hold alot of video and music. I know pictures don't use up that much space if put in as a JPeg.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Probably need a DVD/CD +/- burner, I would think, right????

Please HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok just some 2 cents your budget will let you get a lot more than what you need to do video editing.

You could quite comfortably order a e1705/9400

I sent you a private message with a couple of questions concerning mobility and size. once we determine them I can help point you at a model that would work for you.

Regards
Bobby

Which ever model you get I would highly recommend the core duo and a 100gig 7200rpm hard drive. Also you may want to get a external drive and enclosure for storing video source you aren't working with at the moment as uncompressed avi files eat space very quickly.

you can get a decked out 1505 for about 1400$ with a coupon.

or a 1705 (17") for about 1600$

your choice. i find my 15" 6000 fine.

Get 2 gigs of ram if you can swing it.

Definitely get 2 gigabytes of RAM and a large hard drive, but be aware that Dell prices those items WAY too high. If you have someone who might be willing to help you install those items once your laptop arrives, you can save quite a lot of money by buying them elsewhere and replacing the ones Dell gives you.
