Nx860xl...hot!!!!!!!!

Ok...

I've had my NX860XL for a couple of weeks and my biggest TWO complaints are:
  • Heats up hotter than my M675XL...which had a desktop CPU
  • Battery Life is HORRIBLE!

I purchased it with the 12 cell battery and I get two hours of juice at best! I think the problem MIGHT lie in the video card as I just got a call from Gateway today telling me they have found a problem with their videocards and are having a field tech replace the video card for me next week at my office. Seriously, this thing gets so hot, you can not even use it in your friggen lap!

Also, I know I am an idiot...but Icant figure out what the hell that area on the right side of my touch pad is for....it has an arrow up and an arrow down, but I have no clue what the hell it does!?!?!?

Here are the specs on my machine:

2 ghz proc
2 Gb Ram
7800 Go video card
100 MB hard drive

Gettin ready to put my 675 on eBay...need to get a few of these upgrade dollars back!

It's a scroll pad. The one on my 8510GZ works fine. However, the synaptics touch pad driver that was included...many people with that model and the m680 claimed theirs didn't work in Firefox. Mine always did(with 1.07 and 1.5). I even later ugpraded to the most recent synaptics driver(as of Nov.) and it still worked. So I'm thinking it was a setting or perhaps older revision of Firefox that was the culprit. I'm not sure though, since I've never had a problem.

The scroll pad for me works in my web browsers, Open Office Writer, explorer, and anything else I may have to scroll in.

i haven't heard of many battery problems for the NX860XL, but as for the heating up problem, it sounds like alot of users are having that same problem-try investing in a laptop cooler, such as the lapcool2. hope this helps!

i have the MX6421 and mine is really hot, too! the power brick is so hot sometimes you can barely hold it in your hand, and the laptop fan seems to run all the time.

price

Today the NX860XL is selling for $1299.
A $700 price drop since a week ago. Is this because of the heating issue?

What? That's the NX860X that's selling for $1299(on sale). The XL is $1599. I thought that's a $200 price drop from the other week? Seems like a reasonable one. Other new machines are coming out and there's more Core Duo choices out there now, so you've gotta drop your price to remain competitive.

Like I posted in the NX860* performance thread:

When the graphics card is going to be removed, could you be so kind to take a picture from the slot that the graphics card sits in and from the graphics card itself?
