Buy upgrade cpu where?

Hi guys,
I'm interested in upgrading my 8600's cpu from a 1.6 Banias to a 2.0 Dothan (pentium M 755).

I can't find it in stock ANYWHERE for a reasonable price.

Has anyone upgraded their cpu recently and where did you buy it???

Thanks.

Try eBay.

I see you're in the US... Zipzoomfly seems to be the best deal at the moment according to pricegrabber, at US$319. Not to bad. Otherwise, as mentioned by RRF, your best bet is to scour ebay or local computer stores.

Thanks guys.

Zipzoomfly is out of stock. The other's are probably out of stock too---i'll have to call them tomorrow to see if they ACTUALLY have it avail. despite what their website says. I'm not holding my breath.

As for Ebay, nothing there but an used one and the new ones are going for close to $500.

Damn, zipzoomfly would be great if they had some left.

Chevy,
No, Dothans come in the 400 fsb as well.

I may be wrong but isn't the Pentium M 533 fsb called "sonoma?"

holy crap, i thought the dothans were the 533 fsb version.

interesting.

yea the 533fsb is called sonoma, but i thought before now the dothan was 533 chip, and banias was 400

Just to clarify things:

Sonoma is intels 533 FSB chipset for p-m, compared with a p-m and intel wifi it's "centrino 2".

Banias is a P-M with 400 FSB and 1MB cache.
Dothans are P-Ms with either 400 or 533 FSB and 2 MB Cache.

Oh, I see. I kept getting Dothan & Sonoma confused because I thought that Dothan is referring to 400MHz fsb & Sonoma is 533MHz fsb. Thanks for the info.

You will have problems getting a 755 as many people love 755s for overclocking by pinmod. Why don't you just pinmod your 1.6 to 2.13? Can't you mobo handle it?
8600 mobo doesn't support 533Mhz FSB, otherwise I wouldn't pinmodded my 1.6 dothan already

I bought a 2.0GHz used Pentium-M 400MHz FSB on eBay for a decent price, much less than the $319 quoted above.

Shortly, I'll have used 1.8GHz and 2.0GHz processors available for sale. PM me if you're interested. (I bought a 2.0GHz system on eBay for a price that made it worth it, even though I've already got a 2.0GHz processor elsewhere.)
