Replace laptop cd drive?

I want to upgrade my cdrw/dvd to a dvdr. I have a QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-242 drive now. My laptop was built by Summit Direct in Canada, it is not a brandname. Is it possible to replace the internal drive, or would I have to get an external DVDr? Where would I find a drive that would fit if I can replace it?
I would prefer to put a new internal drive in as I travel, and my laptop only has USB 1, and my PCI slot has a wireless card in it.

Thanks.

Maybe Dell can sell you a replacement. Might want to try removing it yourself though, just to make sure you can do it.

Yes, it's possible to replace the internal CD drive on a laptop. I've done it on a HP and a Dell.

A lot of Dells CDrom bays are modular, meaning you can easily remove and replace them. There is just a little button and the whole bay pops out, I think that you might be able to swap in an extra battery or extra HDD if you wanted.

The HP was purely an internal drive. It basically just involved removing the external casing, keyboard, and then removing the internal cdrom and putting in a new one.

It is possible, you just need to find a place that sells them and make sure that it fits, although, most cdrom drives are standard size.
