I brought over a wireless router and we had many hours of fun playing games on it. We also had an iraqi guy set us up with satellite internet.

good luck

These are things I like to hear!! I've been wondering if I should snag a cheap router with wireless and switch built in.

Bought My Barebones System Today

Well, just took the plunge and ordered my MSI-1039 barebones system. If everything works out I should have it in a week or two.

I’ll get the rest of the components from newegg.com. once the system arrives at the house.

This is going to be my final setup:
2.2ghz MT-40
2gb DDR400
80gb/7200rpm HD (Hitachi 7K100)
WLAN & BT card

All said and done the cost (to include shipping) of the barebones system and all of the components will come out to right around = $1570

This was higher than my original $1400 budget, but I think I’m getting a system that will last me a little longer.

Thanks to everyone on the forums that has helped me out. I’ll let you know how I like the system and how it does in Iraq.

BUT!!!

Looks like the 1039 will start shipping in a couple weeks - wonder if I should save up a few more $$$ and get one of them.

MSI MS-1039
ATI X1600 / 256mb
2.2 GHz AMD MT40
2gb DDR400
60gb / 7200rpm
$1576 – Hot damn that’s not bad!

That is the way I would go... definately...

Good you got the 80 gig. Maybe you should even consider a portable harddrive 250gb aswell. When you get over there, youll meet a lot of people who also have 40gigs of music on their laptops, and suddenly you are squeezed. In addition, Im sure youll have lots of photos and video as well, and these too suck up space. Best of luck to you.
