Non removable video cards on newer latitudes

Chips are soldered directly on the motherboard and thus are not upgradeable:

I think I am going to keep my M70 for quite a bit... I doubt they are going to add a Go 7600 option.

I cant read the link but will take your word for it.

Sigh, I thought Dell was moving past that

(Edit: wait, the link loaded, but I dont see where it says that, all it shows is how to take the cooling system off?)

Precision same as Latitude??

I notice the link shows the Precision Workstation. I'm guessing they are the same basically? Should we look at a Inspiron to be able to change the Video Card?
I am a laptop newbie but hate planned product cycles.
I hate integrated video and whoever invented it........ Bas Turds.
heh heh heh

I am not sure how this indicates the non upgradeable video card though....it looks to me to be how the video cooling is different?

The appearance of the thermal-cooling assembly for system boards with integrated graphics varies from that for system boards with discrete graphics (shown

The difference is that the video card is integrated in the north bridge on intel graphics, thus the thermal assembly looks different.

Latitude D820 and Precision M65 are the same machine. No real differences.

Modular devices need more space, that's why most compact designs have everything soldered into the motherboard. Still, there are ways to get around it.

It could be possible to put a sightly more powerful video chip on the machine. As far as I can remember, the 7400/120M is rated at 10W. Both X1600 and 7600 are rated at 15/16W. 6W is nothing that big to handle, specially considering that previous models (like my M70) have video cards rated at 27W.
