What to choose for a new 710m?

Hi everyone

I am planning to get a new 710m, a few questions here:

1. Which wireless option is the best in terms of stability and strong signal? I don't have a wireless route yet, so I can buy whichever one to fit this laptop.

2. Which specific brand and model of RAM should I choose when upgrading? If you can include link, that would be great!

3. What kind of warranty do you recommend for a new 710m?

Thanks!

i never get under a 2yr warranty. thats about how long i have each notebook anyways.

Ram, ive got transcend and its been fine, look on newegg.

wifi, id go with the intel solution. ive never had a problem with my 2200, and its plenty fast. my cable connection is 4000/384. i use a linksys wifi-g router, and am 2 floors down, across the house. my connection speeds on wifi are 4400/450. excellent.

Agreed. I love my Intel 2200 & I've got them for all my 3 laptops & they are awesome. As for RAM, I'll just go with the cheapest I can find.

My advise to all your 3 questions will be that if you feel comfortable with what you are getting, just go for it because whatever good or bad with the components that others have experienced may or may not happen to you. You always have the option to return items for a short period of time after purchase. Good luck.

I have had the Intel 2200 twice, once on the i8600 and on my current i710m and I hated it both times. Slow connections, constant dropouts and poor signal.

Both times I swapped it for a Gigabyte 108Mbit MiniPCI card and it was perfect

With warranty I got the 2 years with completecare. It is great. When I had a problem with my speakers, a Dell tech came out to fix it, and saw that my screen and palmrest had a few scratches. He replaced them under the completecare and I didn't even ask! Fantastic!

1. which is "best?" Don't know. Have a dell in 8600A and intel in 700m. haven't really noticed a difference. I just got the cheaper b/g card.

2. kingston mem on sale from cc. Buy whatever is on sale. For this type of laptop (and components) it does really make much of a difference. What are you going to use it for?

3. How long do you plan to keep it? If you plan to keep it a long time, then it might be "worth" it to get a longer warranty. Do you take good care of your stuff? But, motherboard could crap out at any time and they're expensive.

Yeah warranty all depends on how long you will keep it. Its not worth buying 4 years warranty if you are only going to have it for 1. When you sell it the buyer can upgrade it to a longer warranty by calling Dell.

I highly recommend the completecare though. It covers you for any accident that you inflict on your laptop, like dropping it or spilling something on it. It just offers peace-of-mind.

What exactly does complete care covers? Will they check if the accidental fall or spill looks intentional? Will they replace or repair?

If it wasn't intentional then you have nothing to worry about :P

Seriously, they seem pretty good with it. I personally have never had to use it (not yet anyway), but my dad's office (which uses Dell's) has had one of their laptops fixed three times in 2 months for two drops (both times rendering the laptop useless) and once for spilling a drink on it. Dell have fixed it no-problem each time.

Oh its just a hypothetical question. So you recommend getting it huh? But I don't think you can add it after the 30 day period.
