I think most of them can game.. but it depends one what type of gaming you're talking about. If you mean to game with the power of Doom then I don't think most can do it. But 2-d games like Civilization shouldn't be a problem. I believe the Z series will be able to handle more higher end games.. but I could be wrong.

How is the v5200 compared to some casul cards like the x1600 or x700??

Its as fast or faster than those. Its is actually designed for AutoCAD applications and such, heavy graphics design. Then in turn it works very good for games. The other forums reviewing the T60p for game play has been very positive so far.

ATI's website

Looking on ATI's website should tell you something about gaming cards, v. non-gaming cards.

ATI Gamer products

The FireGL cards have lots of horsepower, but are not optimized for gaming tasks.

The x600 or x1500 cards will handle 95% of the casual gamers needs. Of course, more power is always better. Something to consider are the new Lenovo 3K N100. Some models have a "GeForce Go 7300" card...great for gaming.

Take a look at the review of the T60p on this website:
http://www.notebookreview.com/defaul...+ThinkPad+T60p

The T60p has Lenovo's best videocard, the ATI FireGL V5200. According to that page, the laptop gets about 3200 in the 3DMark05 benchmark. That is good enough to run current games at medium to low detail. By comparison, my nVidia GeForce 6800GT in my desktop gets about 3500; I can run current games like Battlefield 2, but only at medium detail to get good framerates.

What resolution were you running BF2 at? I'm limited to 1280x1024 because of my LCD monitors, but I was able to run BF2 with the eye candy turned up (I don't use the canned High med Low profiles) and 2xAA and still keep my avg frame rate in the 30s on Strike at Karkand with a 6800GT in my desktop. Either your CPU is slow or something isn't right on your machine.

Any machine that can score over 3000 marks in 3DMark05 will play BF2 at a decent frame rate and still look nice.

V5200 is the FireGL version of the X1600.

Minimum to play today is X300. You'll have to lower the resolution and effects, but most (if not all) games will run smooth.

I have a T60 with the 128mb ATi x1400 card and it handles Doom, HL2, WOW, etc just fine. By no means is it an Alienware or Dell, but it's much smaller than those with my 14.1 screen and IMO, lightyears ahead of either in terms of build quality and customer care. I haven't tried to play FEAR on it yet and probably won't. To be honest with you when I'm out of town about the only game I play is Halo on my notebook. I have a desktop at home for the rest.
