I just got a PM from Alien-Steve

Here is his statement

Good afternoon CyberP,

Regarding the acquisition of Alienware by Dell, well I just heard about it a few minutes ago. It is true, however the main stipulation of the contract is that Alienware is allowed to remain completely autonomous and our infrastructure is not to be disturbed.

I hope that proves to be the case down the road.

Well goodnight all...I'm looking forward to waking up and wading through the 40-odd pages of posts that will happen in my absence!

Well, we can speculate all we want, but the proof will be obvious in the next 90 days or so..
I too have been involved in several "mergers",AKA larger company buy-outs of smaller companies, and I have never seen anything positive come out of it for the "smaller" guy...
I can't imagine this will be any different, but hopefully I will be proven wrong..

Dell only bought AW for one reason, in my opinion...AW makes ALOT more margin on EVERYTHING they sell, whereas Dell makes their $$$ on volume..and, like every other "commodity" seller, Dell yearns for higher margins..
They cant survive forever selling dekstops with a 15 inch monitor for $299.........

Ø Alienware will maintain its own product development activities, brand/product marketing, manufacturing, sales and technical support operations and brand under the same management.
Oh and let's all give a nice warm welcome to AW-Kristian

He'll be stopping by and helping out every now and again with all things AW

Welcome to the boards and thanks for the insight AW-K

Is the nicest way I ask...does this leave a sour taste in anybody elses mouth? I mean do you think this would play into your decision to purchase another Alienware? I'm seriuosly happy that my Aurora is an "authentic" Alienware and I wonder whats going to happen in a couple of years when I am ready for a new one? I really don't want to think about it

Regardless of what people say, part of buying an Alienware was the ego factor. I don't believe that will ever be the same. I think from now on Alienware will have quote marks or an asterisk beside it.

Yea This always happens a huge company will do this and say that it will run autonomously but after a few years they slowly work there own stuff in! And it completely becomes the other company This blows! I'm Sorry and don't get mad but AW having to do anything with dell makes me a less proud owner. I never thought I'd see the day.

Like someone said before I'm glad my rig got out of there in time before all this! I most likely will not be buying an AW again I will enjoy the one I have now and always will but I think my next rig will be a Hypersonic or another brand not associated with a mass production supper company! Just my opinion for now we will see how things go my opinion could always change. But right now this is not cool. AW + Dell who'd of thought.
