Dells Buys Alienware - Discuss Politely - Page 31

We would love for all to know and experience our systems. Retail stores sound like a great way to do that. As you may already be aware, we have opened a kiosk in Miami where the public can come and actually see and get a feel for a selection of our systems before ordering. More Kiosks or a retail store in the future? There is no decision on this as of yet but be sure that we want to grow and absolutely this is a means of further growth that is going to be considered.
As for our website changing....Our website will always be changing with newer products as they are released and of course further creative web design and development as our web team takes pride and is always thinking of new and creative ways of presenting our site.

Not to detour from the retail presence discussion, but how about getting at least one Core Duo laptop out there. Part of AWs appeal is its being bleeding edge, and Core Duo is the bleeding edge for laptops just now.

Will we see Alienware machines next to Dell machines at the Dell Kiosks?

As for the dual core question from Joe.....
Go to our website and check out the Aurora M7700 and the configuration choices. You will see dual core as being an option.

http://www.alienware.com/Configurato...de=SKU-DEFAULT

To answer DO2G....again, Alienware will remain a COMPLETELY seperate entity. So there will be no Alienware products at Dell kiosks or visa-versa should Alienware consider to venture further in a retail store/kiosk scenario.

Hi Frank,

I am aware of the Aurora m7700. However, that is a desktop replacement unit with an AMD dual core desktop CPU.

Core Duo is what is also known as Yonah. Intel Napa platform. It is a true mobile CPU that is also dual core, and in every test run thus far it has been scary fast. The MacBook Pro by Apple currently has the strongest Core Duo implementation, mating the Core Duo with the ATI x1600 256 MB card. If AW can do something like this it will be a HOT seller.

Thank you for the clarification.

Joe,
We do dedicate ourselves in developing systems that involve AMD(tm) and Intel(tm) processors. Though I cannot directly speak for our product develpment team, I'm confident that you can assume that cutting edge, Intel-based systems will be on the horizon as well as we continue our own development and component validations. I'm certain we won't disappoint you! ;-)

The M7700 only offers AMD desktop dual core processors.

Core Duo is intels latest mobile chip. Its a dual core "mobile" processor. AW does not offer any systems with this chip.

Reason, the intel core duo chip lacks in 3d gaming performance, and if your going for a intel notebook, you better off with a single core (PM) chip.

Hi Marker,

I don't know where you are getting your information from, but Core Duo does not lack at all in 3D gaming performance. It does much better there than a normal Pentium M in part because it has two cores, also it has a higher bus frequency (667Mhz) and a different architecture plus full FP/SSE.

Why would you think a single core is better than a dual core?

that Dell dude sickens me to the core...ugh

It is compatible of sorts. The Alienware hub has an audio input port so you can use a male to male 3.5mm stereo cable and connect it to the iPod's headphone port and to the AW hub's sound input.

Download the manual here in PDF format to check it out.
