Overclocking- do or don't do?

My specs are listed in my signature below. I have often asked people about my present query but have never recieved a firm reply.

Here are my 3dmark03 results for default settings:
2800 3dmarks

Here are my 3dmark03 results with overclocking:
Core- 364.50
Memory- 276.75
3055 3dmarks

I like to play at times keeping AA settings to 4x and AF settings to 8x. My question is, the results i'm getting with overclocking seem to be a lot faster, however, i would rather not totally ruin my system, is this safe? I have run stable on my overclocked settings for 2 days with countless hous of gaming, just to check the new settings. I'm relatively new to this kind of thing. However, i have at times experienced game freezes using POWERSTIP to overclock, have no freezes using RADLINKER. Weird? The second thing i'm concerned about is the DIMM temperature reading i get with i8kfangui. Sometimes i get DIMM readings of just under 90 degrees celcius. Rarely does my GPU reading go above 53 degrees celcius. Have you fellas noticed your own DIMM temperature readings?

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me answer these questions, please do keep my use of antialiasing and anisotropic filtering in mind. Appreciate and thanks in advance.

Check out the new version of Fangui 2.2.0. I think the temperatures have been switched for GPU/DIMM.

As far as overclocking, I only bump it to 370 core 277 mem when Im playing an intensive game. I dont run it night and day at those speeds. But heat is definitely the one thing to watch. But at the speeds your running, its not really aggressive clocks that will pose an immediate concern for your vid card. It is well under the normal speeds of a regular 9600 pro.

But it might lessen the life of your video card in the long run since it is subjected to more heat than a regular desktop card. I would just keep an eye out on temperatures. If it just stays the same or goes up several C's in temp, then I dont see why you wouldnt overclock.

Although Overclocking is the cheapest way to improve scores im gonan say this once.

The GPU sits RIGHT on top of the Northbridge of the Motherboard. If your GPU fries so will that chip and i mean literally they share the same heatsink.

With that said use the tried and true method of overclockign which is to jump 5 mhz each core and mem test thouroughly and after 10 minutes if it shows to be good then jump another 5. when you hit a snag drop 1 mhz down of each until you reach your sweet spot.

by the way my limit is 370 Core 290 Mem so far (3157 3D mark 2k3)

Thanks much, guys.

Its good knowing that my overclocking doesn't sound obsurd.

But do you guys overclock and use AA and FA? Or am i pushing the card too far if i do both, overclock and use AA and FA?

Thanks.

as long as your not expriencing artifacts or crashes then its all gravy
