Finally Ordered my XPS M170

Thread Starter
I went through the "High-Performance Savings" link and bought an XPS M170.
It was a good deal: $1,748.00. I'm an a time crunch, so I needed a laptop bad. I sold my 9300 last month. This is still an improvement over that. Plus, I could be waiting forever for a Duo/7900 laptop. I'd also rather buy a laptop with technology that is proven, verses a first gen technology that probably is more hype than not. I'm sure the Duo is 30% faster if you are working on 2 word documents, a visio project, and surfing the web all at the same time, but if your gaming who cares. I've never had a problem 'multi-tasking' before. I want a Processor and Video Card that quickly sucks my battery dry.

XPS M170
Pentium M 760 (2GHz/533MHz FSB) $1,748.00
17in True Life Wide Screen UXGA
1GB,DDR2,533MHz 2 Dimm $0.00
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 Ultra,for XPS M170 $0.00
60GB Ultra ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive $0.00
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
8X DVD+/-RW Drive $0.00
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11b/g,54Mbps)
Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth
80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

on the page with the M170 and the M140, look towards the bottom left, and then there is a little box. Hit it, and then customize the only XPS M170 up there...it has $350 off on any specs...

Congrats on getting a good deal. I'm doing the same RIGHT now. I better convince the parents about spending this much though... It'll be hard to sell.

Downgrade everything, including the warranty.
But curious how ya got it loaded like that for $1,748.00 ? Would be better to upgrade this way and sell the 9300 it seems?
Here's how its done again.

go to dell.com
click HOME AND HOME OFFICE
click NOTEBOOKS
click XPS
click HIGH PERFORMANCE SAVINGS in red on the left
click the system that costs 2511$ (customize it)

downgrade:

CPU to 2ghz
HD to 60gig 7200rpm
Network card to 2200 intel
OFFICE SOFTWARE to "no productivity suite"
CARRYING CASES to none

grand total: 1649$ shipping included !!!!!!!!!!!

now you have to call Dell and hassle them to get the free MP3 player

BTW ...

I managed to get the free player. They will say you have to spend 1999$ on the XPS. But I insisted the ad on the web didnt mention any price and that it said on the purchase of ANY xps notebook.

I spoke to 2 reps and finally asked to speak to a supervisor and told her I expect to get what I read on the website blah blah blah and she added it to my order
