The 4780 is actually quiet enough to take to class when the fans aren't acting up? I thought it would be too loud. How often does the fan com on in class.

dude the fans are no problem in class...but the "Samurai Sword Battle" that just started happening today is! What do I do? ALso I noticed: the noise does not happen if the laptop is perfectly stable on a surface, but if you move it or tilt it it starts screaming/crunching again...

Sounds like the fans have gotten something stuck in them. Its either some compressed air to clean them out or its take down time to get the critter clean. You may also have to RMA the 4780 or have Sager send you new fans. Check the posts that jmsnipe has put up on the service manuals. There should be one at the Clevo site for the 4780.

If all esle fails give your reseller a call and see what they suggest.

Good Luck

Yeah, ditto all what PCB says. I would advise against operating the machine until you get this figured out. The part about it moving tends to suggest that perhaps the fans are loose or something else in there is loose and getting into the fans. I doubt compressed ari will help but what the heck, its worth a try as its so little effort.

I'd be getting that service manual pronto and getting either your reseller or SAGER on the horn right away. If your fans die, your SAGER dies soon after.

no the fans they work, this also just happened today. I noticed that when I til the sager to the left or to the right this happens, when it is on stable grounds nothing happens... what do you think might have happened?

SInce its only 1 month old I'm going to ask them to go through warranty and see if they can try to fix this.

Update: ok now the noise is gone and I can't replicate the noise either. I treid tilting the laptop form side to side and it still doesn't make the noise...damn... anyway I'll give till tomorrow, if the samurai battle starts again, its going to be a warranty fixage...

Bad bearings, most likely. RMA it.

well... I decided to kinda lift up the keyboard part of it and see what the heck is going on... apparentl I noticed something was rattling in it... i kinda shook the lappy top around and I guess whatever was loose hopped out because the rattling went away! I put the keyboard back and everything seems cool now. So I think it was something just hitting against the fan. I'll play with it for a day or two to be sure.

Next time don't let your friends eat lunch NEAR your machine. All kinds of weird stuff can find itsway inside a laptop. If you don't belive then turn your desktop keyborard over and "spank" it from the bottom. If what you see falling out of that doesn't make you loose your lunch then you are Da Man!

Glad to see the problem may be fixed.
