Need Help With Laptop Purchase

Hello

I am going to be a transfer student to Virginia Tech this coming Fall and need a good laptop. I want something that is useable in class, so I guess nothing too big you know. I also would like something with a decent battery life of course, and something that doesn't get seriously hot.

I will probably not use it for gaming but will use it primarily as my main computer in place of a desktop and do stuff like sync it to a PDA and mess around with digital camera.

I really don't know soo much about computers, so any advice would be welcome.

well first thing first, lets establish your budget. how much $ are you willing to spend?

Go to a local BestBuy/Circuit city or whatever youhave and take a look at the sizes & form factors of the different laptops there. What size screen do you want and do you want it in wide or "regular" aspect? Also what type of work will you be doing on it? In other words what type of software will you be running? Any intense design or programming stuff?

I want something I can pull out in my lectures and use, so it has to be a reasonable size for that.

As far as what I will be using it for, I am a Human Nutrition student and will be going into Medical School. I won't really be using it for anything special so to say, other than some note taking, chatting with friends, doing papers and downloading pics from my digital camera to email friends.

well then, it seems any run of the mill laptop will do the trick. here are a few of my personal favorites.
