sudden shutdowns

i have a compaq presario 2100 notebook...the laptop suddenly shutsdown. i thought it was a problem with the hd, so i took it out and replaced it with a working hd. it shutdown while i was installing the os, and doesn't stay on for long enough time to load the os onto the hd. i know its not a problem with the hd and can't figure out if its a power supply issue or something else. the battery life says its fully charged and it seems like the power supply is working correctly...anyone else have this problem? any possible suggestions??

Either Thermal or supply line issue.. Blow the fan vents out and retry the install. Easy way to verify adapter is pull Battery and boot into BIOS and slightly wiggle adapter cord to see if it shuts down from a bad solder joint.. Good luck!
