Help me find my next laptop!

Heading off to college this fall and I just purchased a desktop with the below specs and plan on getting a laptop to complement this system. I have $600 firm max to spend on decent laptop. I'd like a E1505 or a 710m for the price, but somehow i don't think i'll be able to get them that cheap. Could some nice soul point me in the right direction? I'm hesitant to go the dell outlet route, but if thats what you guys think will get me the best price i might consider it.

Another coulple of things--getting a dell isn't a must either. I'm open to any brand, but just figured my best bet would probably be a dell. And i notice in the circular ads that most retail stores sometimes run specials like a laptop for $399.

I will only use this laptop for internet/presentations/transferring papers from home to school. NO GAMING!!!

I dunno about $400 notebook deals, but $500 to $600 deals certainly come up every week on at least one of the big computer retailers (compusa, best buy, circuit city, office max and staples). Don't expect much though for this price bracket, unless you are prepared to wait a few weeks for the really good deals.

In the Dell category, look for the B120/B130 series to get you around this pricepoint, which is basically a Celeron 1.5/16.GHz, 256M (or 512M RAM if you are lucky) and 40/60GB HDD. A notebook of such spec will meet your stated requirements.

I can wait until the very end of july to get my notebook, so i have time to scope out the deals

would dell be the best brand to go with in the case?

If you can wait that long, get it in July. Then you will go to college with the latest and greatest.

The B130 is a decent system, I'd consider buying one but only if it were widescreen.

b120

There is a deal on this... I wanted to get this for a friend who started taking computer science courses, like basic coding, coding algorithms etc. She would also do basic MS Office, and general Internet use. Would this machine be good enough?
