Im looking at the m6807 and for those of you who own it, I have a few questions. I e-mailed emachines and they said the hard drive RPM is 4200 RPM wth 8MB cache, but don't some of you have a 5400 RPM travelstar? Also, they said the processor can't be pulled from the motherboard, has anyone opened the machine to confirm this? My last question regards battery life, what is the average length of time it plays a DVD on batteries? Thanks and enjoy the m6807/6805s.

Yep, I do seem to have the Hitachi 60GB/5400rpm HD in mine, according to the specs over on [H]ard|Forum. Lucky me!

Just swapped my new HP for a 6805 and boy I'm glad I did (good-riddance to 9000 IGP). HP do have the industrial feel down better (emachines, like Toshiba and some others, feel a little 'plasticky', or lightweight to me) ...but speedwise this baby has nearly everything I looked at in a Sager, for a heap less dough. You can't go past it for the dough, and off-the-shelf to boot!

Good luck all - keep up with the feedback!

(BTW, BB in Emeryville CA has three 6805s left, as of this afternon.)

Cheers,
Dave

My 6805 has a 5400rpm,HTS548060M9AT00,also I got mine before the new
rebate at BB,I called them today and I can get new rebate(another 150 off).
I have several laptops including an IBM T40,and overall this 6805 is a nice
machine, runs very cool even when playing games, and the keyboard is nice and soild.

My 6805 has the Toshiba 4200 RPM drive.

I would have liked the 5400, but that's a small annoyance that can easily be fixed when necessary.

i have the 4200rpm drive as well. Its not so much that I am mad that others got an "upgrade" by getting the 5400rpm, but it just seems odd that they manufacture this same notebook with several different types of hard drives.

I also got a reply back from emachines and the lady told me specifically that emachines uses fujitsu 4200rpm drives. Mine is a Toshiba.

Sorry for you guys that didn't get the 5400 drive. If it was me I'd figure on just putting in a 7200rpm as soon as I could afford it, then you'll have the rest of us beat anyway!

Cheers,
Dave

Yeah, the toshiba is what e-machines said they shipped, but I was surprised to see that some people got a 5400 RPM drive.

DING DING DING DING! Just got finished. Makes it feel a bit snappier. Now, where's that first memory slot? I got a Geil DDR 3200 SODIM to put in there.

kl - you didn't waste any time(!) I guess it'd be hard justify upgrading from 5400 rpm to 72... ah, just give me a couple of months...

Dave

upgrading

is it hard to upgrade the hard drive to a 7200 or the ram to a gig 3200?

thanks

The hard drive was real easy. Pop the old one out of the cradle, put the new one in, boot it up with the first recovery disk in the CD-ROM, and let it go.

Got the drive from ZipZoomFly for $245. My thin thread of justification is if the drive fails, I have a backup with the OS ready to go.

Where's the other memory slot? Is it under the keyboard? the one under the cover is a 256 module so it's either under the keyboard or it's soldered to the motherboard.

Instead of new hard drive can I use an USB2 External 7200 hard drive for online games... Call of duty... etc.

Good thing I had a Hitachi 7k60 handy, muahahaha.

Very easy swap, restore disks are norton ghost images.

Love the m6805

I really used to be wary of eMachines, but this thing rocks. It's fast, easy to set up and oh yea, I got the 5400 rpm drive. For 1299 after rebates it is an untouchable value...

Yep, cool! I love mine.

Just picked up mine tonight on V-day and....

I got the 5400 RPM drive w/8 MB cache!!!

My awesome wife actually agreed to go and pick one up tonight, since the BBuy 250 MIR deal ends today. They had 1 left and it's mine

I would still be happy with this thing even if it only had a 4200 rpm drive. The 5400 rpm drive is like the icing on the cake. This machine is sweet and extremely fast. I'm glad I returned my X1000 and got this. Don't get me wrong, the X is a very nice system, but this one is so much faster that I'm amazed.

For those of you that got the 5400RPM drive, what month was your notebook manufactured? Same with the people that got the 4200RPM.

Just wondering if there is a pattern as to which notebooks got which drives.

Thanks.

Good question, I'd answer it if I knew where to look... where's the "Born on: " date?
