I'm in the market for a new gaming laptop, which do you think would be better to get the job done?

EX7_______________FX7

3.4 P4_____________X2 4400+
3584MB PC5400_____2048MB PC3200
7800GTX___________7800GTX
80GB 7200RPM______80GB 7200RPM

$3331_____________$3394

All the other specs are the same. The P4 seems like a better deal, even though its not dual core the extra 1536MB of ram should help it. Theres not that many games that take advantage of dual core processors on the market anyway. So, let me know what you guys think is the better deal, I would love to hear you opinions!

as im sure you already know the amd has better gameing performance , but then again if you want gameing id go niether and wait for a sli gaming notebook that has a better processor in it then the oh so pityfull turion.

I agree with mick…. If you are looking at only gaming - maybe the AX9 with the 19" screen and SLI'd video card is the way to go. If you are not looking to wait - then definitely the FX7.

Good luck!

FX7 all the way plus anything over 2 gigs of ram currently is going to be under utilized at best although I am fairly sure that will change pretty quickly

Well, it will be my all around computer, but I'm ordering it with gaming in mind. I considered the SLI notebook but that thing is too damn big. Im in the Navy and fear it won't fit into the storage space under my rack, lol. That and I don't want to wait too long before ordering.

Yes, I know AMD has better gaming performance, but with 1.5 gigs of extra ram I was thinking the P4 might be the better choice. Please keep you minds open when replying, I know alot of people automatically choose the AMD no matter what. Correct me if I'm wrong but, in this case I can't see the P4 being beaten so easily. Basically what im asking is, considering those two options, which one do you guys think would be better to run games on?

AMD still considering the hyper-transport 1 Ghz bus and other optimizations.

You are not going to have trouble running games on either since the importance of the CPU is seriosuly overexaggerated in regards to gaming alone, especially on a notebook. That being said, the main reason I chose the EX7 when I did was because of the extra memory potential and the fact that it supports the much better Media Center TV Tuner, with hardware encoding, which the FX7 for some reason does not. This is not a HyperSonic problem but an overall Clevo D900K problem.

Also, the FX series of processors was not officially supported at that time and I would have chosen the faster FX series over the X2 series. However, you can now get the FX series with the FX7 so that point is no longer relevant.

If you want the extra memory capabilities and good TV encoding is important, than the EX7 is clearly the way to go. If you want pure gaming performance with nothing else in mind, then the FX7 is probably the best choice.

Either way, at least feel confident that you are getting a great system irregardless of which you decide to take.

My 2 cents:

The Hype (my opinions):

EX7: More of a Business class desktop replacement. Good CPU power for the money, lots of memory, good graphics. Everything the power paper pusher needs.

FX7: Awesome general purpose desktop replacement. Dual Core performance, fair amount of memory, good graphics. Excellent compromise for the gaming desk jocky.

AX9: Your dream gaming machine on the go. Lesser CPU, but who needs more CPU when you can SLI your gaming experience.

The bad:
Configuring more than 2.8G (~3G) of System RAM is almost pointless. The appears to be a chipset issue that will not allow more than that to be passed to the OS.

My Recommendation:

If your main concern is to game on it, spend the extra little bit and get an AX9 for the SLI capabilities. Otherwise I would go with the FX7. More and more software is being released with Dual Core support. In addition both the CPU and GPU are user upgradable. When the 7900 comes out with the same form factor, you will be able to upgrade. When the FX60 drops in price (currently $1000-1100 retail) you will be able to upgrade to it.
