Nvidia or ATI

Thread Starter
Which one gives better performance?
Specially I would like to compare the Nvidia Geforce Go 6600 vs ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

Both have 256 ram and both are good Graphic Cards too.

Thanks a lot for posting

don't know too much about the X1400 but the geforce go6600 is pretty good (personally i like nvidia better too )

The 6600 gives better performance

ati x1400 < nvidia 6600 < ati x1600

I would go with Nvidia.

If you are planning on doing anything with Linux go nVidia as ATI's linux support suxors. otherwise I would have to say between the above mentioned 2 cards still nVidia unless you are looking at something that has an X1600 then I would get that.

mmmmm nvidia

i prefer ATI

between the 2 cards the 6600 will whoop the ati. between the 2 brands i also prefer nvidia (although my current laptop is ati) part of this reason is because nvidia linux drivers actually work, unlike the craptastically buggy fglrx.

Your best bet is to not have a preference or a loyalty. Simply buy whoever is on top at the moment you are ready to purchase. Both companies make great products.

the 6600 isnt THAT much better than the X1400, but it is superior indeed.

To be honest I prefer nVidia but after comparing the spec of the mobile x1600 and the go 7600, the ATI has the nvidia beat hands down (and that isn't an easy thing for me to say).

Um if you mean be slightly faster than sure the 6600 "Whoops" the X1400, Of course then the X700 "Whoops" the 6600 and the X1600 slaughters it, then burns it to ash, then pees on those ashes and makes a statue out of them, then blows that statue up with C4.

And of course all of that is before we get to Oblivion where ATI has the brutal beat down on Nvidia in hand. IE the X1600 Mobility will run it in 1024x768 medium low details, and the 6600 go will chug trying to run it in 800x600 low details.

Seriously though the 6600 go is Nvidia's last gen mid range part, the mobility X1400 and the mobility X1300 are ATI's current budget parts. Still the Acer 5672 scores around 1655 in 3dmark 2k5, with an X1400, and the thinkpad T60 with X1400 scores 2092 in 3dmark 2k5. Most 6600 Go laptops score around 2000~2300 points in 3dmark 2k5.

If you're just interested in gaming then pick whatever gives the best performance, you can usually check reviews in hardware sites, just look around. Me, well, I can swallow a performance hit if it means working support for Linux (Nvidia).

you're a jackass. most of my arguement in favor of nvidia was based purely on linux performance.

the ati x1600 beats the nvidia 6600.

Did the ATI thing a couple of times over the years. Couple years down the road the compatibility issues drove me crazy each time.

Back to Nvidia - not looking back.

The X1400 is actually 128MB dedicated with 128MB from Hypermemory, not a true 256MB component. It, nonetheless, has benchmark scores almost identical to those of the Go6600 (~50pts higher than the Go6600 in 3DMark 2005, an insignificant margin).

However, the X1400's support for HDR rendering should give you a better experience in next gen games.

If I had 1GB of RAM in the system, I would choose the X1400. If less, then it would be a somewhat tougher decision.
