New Acer Laptops coming out within a week!

There will be some new Acer Laptops coming out in North America within a week. By the sounds of things there should be some with the Core Duo and a nice GPU. Maybe even something like the Aspire 5560 avalable in Europe (basically a 14 inch screen version of the 5670).

Heat is ridiculous with the 5672. I found it a nuisance at first and now I would say I can not recommned the 5672 to anyone because of it.

I sit it on a notebook cooler and use it with a monitor/keyboard/mouse so I don't have to be anywhere near it.

What a bummer...

hey

With a laptop cooler that costs like 30 bucks its a non issue.

No links, I found out in a conversation with an Acer sales rep.

Laptop coolers are fine for the desktop, but who wants to travel everywhere with a laptop cooler. They are about the size of a laptop themselves.

These are laptops anyhow.

And it's annoying to have two pieces on your lap anyway.

The problem with laptop coolers is that most pull air down from the laptop and out the back. This was a stupid idea. Most laptops suck air in from the bottom up and out the side or back. So the laptop cooler is fighting the laptop's own fan. I had a cooler that I bought from Fry's that worked the right way around, but was really crappy and it's broken. The blades were not well protected and bent and broke off very easily. Now they don't carry them.

Laptops should be able to be used as laptops.

Damn, 20" screen for a laptop? Ok, so obviously it isn't mean to be portable, but why not just buy a 20" LCD screen with a small form factor PC?

Uninstall the Acer Power utility. It keeps the CPU running at 100% while plugged in. I am running on Windows power management and my unit is fairly cool. The CPU runs at 100% only on demand.

If anyone gets some more information on what they're bringing to the US, post some links. Hopefully some nice 15.4" units show up. I agree with the other poster, if you're going to buy a 20" laptop, you may as well buy a regular desktop.

Why the hell didn't Acer bring the Aspire 5650 to the USA? Thats a great notebook and exactly what I needed. Better than an 8204 for most tasks, including gaming, if you ask me

Or at least a small form factor PC!

I think it's dumb that they have all the space with the 20" screen and what video card do they put in there? An Nvidia 7600.... ughhh

What would be the performance comparison of X1600 and GeForce7600??? (256MB resp. 512 Hype considered)
I believe that the X1600 and the 7600 are similar, much like the X700 and 6600 were similar... I'm not sure that Acer's intention with the 9800 is a high-end gaming system, but rather a high-end multimedia system (hence, the HD-DVD). At the same time, though, that begs the question why not an ATI card, since the Avivo is supposed to be the premier video playback solution.

Interesting...

Well, I have my 8204 on order, but now I found this 5652 WLMi available for very nice price and with GF7600 of 256MB dedicated, so I am thinking of an alternative to the 8204, but as I can see the aspires tend to have a lot of issues as well...

Yeah, I wouldve definitely preferred an nvidia card (for linux/bsd) over the X1400 on the 5672 I just picked up. Oh well..
