My alienware is at phase 9 and need to buy a monitor now for when the system arrives (can't have the system without monitor). I want a big monitor (preferably widescreen) and up to now have narrowed my search to two brands: Dell and Samsung.

The Dell one is one you all know, the 2405fpw and the Samsung is a 21.3" SyncMaster 214T and my budget is at around 700 bucks.

My problem is which to choose. I hear that the 2405fpw is a great monitor but that Samsung has more quality on their displays. Which monitor should I choose? I have heard that Dell can offer an extra discount if I call them; can this be applied now? Thanks for all the help.

PS: If any other monitor is good, please suggest it.

EDIT: The SyncMaster has a faster Response time... 8mm vs 12mm.

Take a look at the 21" gateway. Specwise, it blows everthing out of the water. If you're going to get a 21" 1680 x 1050, get the gateway hands down.

if you wany a 1920 x 12000 24", then get the dell.

I prefer the Samsung than the Gateway. Price is around the same but do you think gaming at 1600 x 1200 is good enough?

ok, you really need to trust me on this one, the gateway is a much better moniter. and 1600 x 1200 is 4:3 reso, so if you ant to run that on a WS miniter, then no.

?? What do you mean?

oh, just looked up that samsing again, its not widescreen. Doesnt make much sense these days to get a NON WS moniter anymore. Also, no HDCP, so you're not going to be future prooof either.

What you really need to ask you self first if if you want widescreen or not.

I do want a widescreen, any other HDCP monitors you could recommend? I just don't like the design of the gateway that much.

ok, well that samsung isnt a widescreen so theres no point in looking at that one. The 24" dell is out of your bidget.

Theres only 2 HDCP moniters i know of right now, that gateway and the new dell 2007FPW
