So far I like the laptop but the crap they install on top of XP is driving me nuts! I'm going to reformat. Hopefully the Media Direct 2.0 ISO will make it up tonite. I called Dell last night and order it.. well I thought I did. The order processed today and did not have the MD2 SKU in the list. I gave them the SKU today and it appears they got it right this time.

GRRR... I just discovered one dead pixel (WSXGA+)!

- Dell is going to build a new system to replace this one. Hopefully it won't have any display defects.

No need to do that. The online service manual has pretty good pictures and instructions.

How many hours of using it you will notice the keyboard and touchpad is getting hot?

The display has a dead pixel. For some that might be acceptable but for me it isn't. They didn't give me a hard time at all.

i must be thinking of dell's Desktop lcd policy of 6 or more dead pixels.

good to know it doesnt apply to laptops. id hate to spend 1000$+ and get a dead pixel.

how do u like it otherwise?

Run some 3dmark05 tests. I'm curious what you get. My dirty OS and 512 of ram (and default graphic settings) only yielded a score of 1729.

I bought copies of 03 and 05. I am gonna run tests at default and native resolution (1280x800) as soon as I get mine.

Tim, my I6000D originally had a lit pixel. I found out that if you turn the laptop off and kind of gently massage the area with the bad pixel alot of times that will fix it. The problem usualy isn't a dead pixel but that the LCD liquid didn't completely cover that pixel. So by massaging the area you'll move the liquid around and get that pixel working. Worth trying, as it worked for me. It bugged me that there was one little pixel that was always blue, so I found that procedure and tried it and it worked, no more lit pixel. Just thought I'd mention it.

Otherwise, is it a pretty nice system? I hope mine makes it to boxing today.

Tim,
How did you get Dell to build you a replacement laptop for one dead pixel? I was under the impression that it took multiples for them to consider this. The reason I ask is because the same thing happened to me - dead pixel right in the middle of the LCD. I'd be interested to know what you said to get them to replace your laptop.

Thanks

Honestly I don't think the customer service person I spoke to understood exactly what a dead pixel meant. She asked if I wanted to speak to technical support and I said no. I basically told her that I was very unhappy to find a dead pixel on my brand new laptop and that I would like to return it. She then told me she would speak to her manager about replacing the system with a new one. That went smoothly and supposedly another system is going to be built to the same specs. I'm an impatient person so another wait is driving me nuts but if the new one is flawless it will be worth it. If not, I will keep the better of the two.

How can I change the font sizes for the internet?

I received my dell e1505 yesterday and I've noticed that the font sizes are really small when I browse the internet. I've clicked on destop/properties and enlarged the fonts and also increased the dpi to 120 and still the fonts are too small to read with my true life screen. Can someone help? And also is the system suppose to run quiet because I'm getting some kind of hissing sound.

For the fonts while browsing the internet, click on the webpage(so it's in the foreground) then hold CRTL and play with the scroll wheel on your mouse. It will get bigger and smaller depending on which way you move it. Easy way to make text easier to read without having to mess with the DPI and font settings.

My new laptop is in testing! It is going to ship overnight so hopefully it will be here by next Monday or Tuesday. I hate waiting!

Thanks. That helped me out, but I'm still hearing a high pitch sound coming from the bottom of my notebook. Is anyone else having this problem?

There's a whole thread on this exact issue if you'll look back over the past few days, I believe it's "Increasing Font Size to 120DPI".

One option is to use Mozilla's Firefox browser which allows you to hit Control + and it will make the text as large as you want it. Sometimes it causes issues with backgrounds and images but for the most part it's a good solution. I believe IE7 will have this feature as well.

I find when I crank the DPI to 120 with IE, I get jaggies on images.
