I got the 7800gtx in, BUT i broke the left heatpipe, I thought you only need to bend the right one, but the left keyboard screwpost (I desoldered and removed the right one) was in the way of the left (long) heatpipe so I tried bending it and it ended up breaking. I need to talk to bal thazar and see if he could order me one of those deals. I'm installing crap right now as we speak. I also had to remove a pieces of plastic off the vid card fan shroud so the right heatpipe could fit. This mod ISN'T easy and should not be for the faint of heart. It involved permanently breaking off pieces of your new >$1000 dual core laptop. So far working great with my LG WUXGA screen. the screen won't auto-off however.

Ok some more new info. The ATI X300 (like anyone cares lol) & 6800 ULTRA do work in the e1705. The e1705 bios also recognizes either card and apropriately names it in the CMOS setup (9300 bios doesn't recognize the 6800 ultra and calls it "unknown") So for the adventuresome on a budget can buy one of the numerous 6800 ultras for sale and drop it in their e1705. The performance difference between the 6800 ultra and 7800go is pretty close though so this is only a worthy upgrade for the X1400 people. I transferred the heatsink from my 6800 ultra to my 7800gtx , this time being ALOT more gentle wit bending the heatpipes and now I have a fully working E1705/m170 hybrid. Thanks again for the earlier pioneers like mobosys/tachi/chrous who made this possible.
I hope this new info is helpful.

I did say in one of the to many for the swap post's that I had to remove some of the plastic from the right fan. When I was installing mine I felt my system would not work anymore. lol well as for the 4 of us now all is good all we need si the new or revised fangui.

Yup we need a new fangui and also a Yonah compatible undervolting program. I'm going to try rm clock and notebook hardware control tonight. I have another concern also, no matter how much I tried to bend my left heatpipe it still applies quite a bit of pressure on the Left keyboard mounting post. I'm thinking about removing it again and dremeling out a piece off the metal carrier (not off the actual heatpipe lol)

my only question is after removing one of the keyboard posts, how do you keep the keyboard down properly? im still personally waiting to see if dell makes a new cooler with the new xps system and to see if they switch to 7900 series, which i slightly assume they might.

The plastic cover that covers the lcd hinges applies enough pressure to hold down the keyboard. There is some "flex" to the keyboard though, but not alot. If there is a XPS/e1705 option taking the cooler from that one would make the install much easier. One other thing, 9300/xps2/m170 owners take note, if you do try to install the 7900go/gtx into your machines you're going to need a motherboard mod also. 'cuz guess what, there's a binding post that's in the way of mounting a e1705/m1710 video card. I found that out when I tried putting my X1400 into my 9300 lol. You're going to need to solder and twist it also.

I have my E1705 since April and made the 7800GTX soon after I got it, I had no problem or issues regarding performance/temp/compatibility. 130W PS brick and 7800GTX detected on BIOS as you all read on this thread. no problems to make system go standby or such. I have 2 problems, maybe you guys check and can give me an answer. DVI is not working, monitor does not detect any signal from that video port, however, it detects the signal from the analog video port. The other problem comes when I connect the monitor to the analog port and switch display to use external monitor, which is the only port that seems to be working. The problem is that the Laptop LCD backlight stays on, it does not shut when I am not using it and the lid is even down. This might be related to the 3min standby issue some or all of you are having. Can any of you guys that made the mod test and let me know your findings?
