Current issue regarding the installation of the 7800GTX in my E1705 - Page 4

wait wait il use your argument before, DO YOU HAVE THIS CARD (or mod) DONE YET, oh wait you dont, so don't spread false information.

XPS is their flag ship gamming unit, im sure they won't release a water down version. But until someone acctually tests out the new unit, we will all be left in the dark guessing.

Likewise, I'm sure the 256MB 7800GTX will still out perform a 512MB 7900GT. Also, they usually they end up dumping slower memory on the larger memory size cards. So instead of say, 256MB 3ns memory, you end up with 512MB 5ns memory, which hampers it as well.
you ARE right about that RAM doesn't mean anything, the most important thing is the chip being 7600 gt 7800 gtx/go or 7900 go/gtx

So yeah, I think JaxChris and that makemedie fella should ctrl+alt+del IRL so we can clean the gene pool a little bit...
You're still an idiot... you just proved that I was right and you were wrong about BIOS and laptop power systems... and you're trying to tell me to ctrl-alt-del like you're some freakin' wizard??? Wow... you are one serious Spin Doctor.

Read the damn posts again, you just showed we were right and waved it like a victory flag for yourself.

What a pro!!! Where you get your "engineering" degree? Community College?

Well the thread si not going so good I thot is saied like Current issue regarding the installation of the 7800GTX in my E1705??? Any way mine is fine so far. In mine I don't like the fact that I hade to take plastic out for the heat pipes to fit it's not just the MB/keyboard post it's a bit more then that. Now one more thing I notis is that I use my sistem at work all day and I have a 3 minutes timer for the screen to turn off and now it wont work. The timer will work but the screen is not off but a gray/brune color. could be drivers I guess. As for temp not grate did AS5 and idle at 61/62 and 3dmark2005 around 83 witch is not that bad but could be better.

Yeah come on guys this is starting to get a bit childish here, I am reading through these posts to get information, instead 50% of the chat is nothing but chest beating and gloating. I dont give 2 rats a$$es who works where or what your credentials are, or whos a nub or not. Lets please stick to the topic at hand so the rest of us can learn some valuable stuff here.

Theories and facts are good, its all trial and error when modding sometimes, good and bad, but this crap just has to stop. It is not what the forums are for.

-now that I am done ranting...... my technical question.

How easy is it to bend that heat pipe, and what is the safe way to do it?

Guys lets get in topic and find the BEST and mose EFFECTIVE way of upgrading the E1705 to a nicer video card. So how many have been able to do the mod? I think we are at 1.
2 I have mine and mbosys did is 2 or 3 weeks back don't know about others.
we're at 2 sucessful and 1 semi-sucessful but had a bad card. I will soon be the 4th...
I think its safe to say, its doable, without any major hassles. Tachi had a refurbished card that has issues, just because 1 person had a problem with the card doesnt mean it cant be done.
some of you guys need to stop talking out of your asses thinking you know what your talking about. I think its been proven in this thread you dont. If your wrong, your wrong. and just because you were part right, doesnt mean your post as a whole was.
Point is, sometimes you dont know if something works till you try it.
And yes, the 7800GTX is still faster than a 7900gt, but the 7900GTX will blow the 7800gtx out of the water. Its still the second fastest video card available though

Cool Zolutar.

The hard part for me was to take the post off it's not easy and I took my mobo off to do it. I would say don't do the pull up thing I got mine off with a twist and ofcorse the sodering iern. Alos no one talked about that but mine if I am in Windows and have the timer in for the screen to turn off it gets darg gray and not off. It's not the drivers I tried 3 difrent ones and all the same.

Will do a quick 3d mark 2005 now.

83 is an awesome temp for the 7800GTX chrous, don't be fooled. The threshold is 115, and the 7800Go on my laptop runs around 83-84 or so on full load OC'd to 325/800.

Grate that's what I needed to hear Thanks.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Can you guys who did the mod try your brightness control (both in the BIOS and with Fn-up/down arrow)?

When I did a screen swap with a 9300, the 9400 couldn't control brightness on the 9300 LCD. So, I would have assumed that when you guys plugged a 7800GTX in a 9400, you'd also have trouble with the brightness control. I'm pretty sure the LCD interfaces are slightly different for those video cards.

Brightness levels still work fine here.

Congrats!
Now, does your screen turn off when you set the timer in power schemes?
I have an e1705 that's on order that I'm going to load up with the 7800gtx from my 9300.
Also, is the keyboard loose without the right side screw?
chuos also mentioned having to break off plastic?

Now Can some ont tell me how to use fan gui???

Thanks.
