hard drive stuck in PIO mode (i think)

i have an asus z70va
device manager=>primary IDE controller properties:




my computer has been stuttering and running very slowly. online video is choppy, sound playback (thru laptop speakers and headphones) is really choppy and stuttery. i try to reboot and it still stays in PIO mode, and windows loads very slow. anyone know how to fix this? thanks

also, when i boot my computer up, it always stays at the black p.o.s.t. screen and says:

Pri Master: st96812a (my hard drive)
ultra dma mode-5 s.m.a.r.t. capable and damage BAD

and then further down it has:

Pri Master Hard Disk: s.m.a.r.t. status BAD, backup and replace

hoping my hard drive isn't busted...

Backup your data ASAP, your HD is going bad.
