By MrFaust:
My father bought an E1705 last week. Unfortunately it came with the ATI X1400 video card and we have been LESS THAN THRILLED with it's performance. I've read where lots of people have been disabling once of the CPU cores in the bios to get performance. My point is, if I wanted to disable a core, i would have bought a single-core cpu laptop. Well Dad just got off the phone with Dell. It appears that they now have some GeForce Go 7900 cards, but not many. They expect more next week. These cards are expected to be $500+ US. The lady he spoke with said that this card does work fine with the E1705 and that not only is it faster than the 7800 it also fixes some of the issues that were found with the Go 7800 as well. We are supposed to get a call back next week when they come avalible for purchase. I think they have the bios and drivers ready for this as well. Atleast early drivers. Will post updates when we get the card and see what kind of performance increase we get.

$500? ouch.

the 7800GTX is still faster than the 7900, and less than $500. Although the 7900 will most likely fit better

You can get refurb 7800GTXs for $360 shipped. $500 for a 7900Go? No thanks.

Ignore the fact that the first refurb I got was a dud, hah!

Good news... just talk with my dell rep about my replacement for my 9400 with 7800, he said the 7900 is about to be available (still in testing) and ask me to call him back in a week, he will have much more details.

sweet. although I'll call them up to see if I can get upgraded for free or at only a small amount (just tell them my x1400 is causing flicker and isnt working properly)...if not then I'll stick with my ATi, I mean for 5 bills or even 400 I'll just buy an Xbox360 and be done with it.

Yes we're all crying that you'll pay $500 for 10% increase over the 7800Go

I bought my laptop from NZ. The price for the upgrade to 7800GO was $200 so that's about $130US. So now I'm gonna be paying what $630? Oh yay, big deal, incase you havent noticed my specs I spec'd up my 9400, I dont care about the money.

Atleast I wont get a card that had to be removed from production line because of problems in it.

There's no problems with my 7800Go

And you flame the 7800Go, yet you're also claiming you have one...

You are quite the idiot, that's for sure.

I guess it will be something more like 20%... remember that the 7800go was downclock by dell because of the heat issue. From what I was tell the 7900go will be set at higher clock... not 100% sure, but this is what my dell rep told me, he also tells me that the x1400 was as fast as the 7800 LOL

why? You paid the same as we did for an ATI card and are now paying $500 extra for a 7900. But if it makes you feel better, I could shed a tear i guess

I think I will hold onto my 7800 till the 7900GTX gets cheaper and confirmed to fit.

The 7800 wasn't downclocked because of heat issue. It OC's at least 75mhz on both Core and Memory fine, with no heat issues.

The 6800 Go's were also downclocked. It also OC'd great. That's just how Dell does it.

I'm 98% positive the 7900 will be downclocked as well. I'll also bet it will OC at least 75mhz on core/mem fine.

I'm claiming to have one, IDIOT, because I ordered my laptop WITH one. HOPING that I wouldnt get a bust card.

Pwain, I was talking about the people who ALREADY got the 7800 and were laughing at us not being able to get ours yet. I had mine on order, still do, hasnt been shipped yet. So actually you and me are in the same boat.

A 7800 isn't a "bust" card...

Perhaps what makemedie is getting at is that he ordered, and is still waiting for, the 9400 with 7800, but will now get one now with the 7900 instead for free.

Noody

It's possible.

Either way, the 7800Go isn't a bad card. He just throws out this flame bait all over. He's a total douche. He's probably just some teenager, from the sound of things.

Or rather, hopefully this is true!
