What is the best virus/spyware/adware/firewall on the market?

Thread Starter
I have heard a lot of storys on different security protectors. Stuff like AV anti-virus is better than Norton. Explain why you believe one security protector is better than others.

(I plan on buying a firewall and a virus/spyware protector for my new Laptop I am going to be getting soon. I don't want it to be a resource hog or not that good of a program XD)

Microsoft anti-spyware is the best spyware thing i've found, but i use free junk for virus and firewall so i can't help you there. we have norton at work and i hate it, my mom has mcafee and i hate it, so i got AVG free from grisoft, and it works... good enough.

Antivirus-spy-ad

Don't know about anyone else, but I'm currently running a multitude of
different prog's.
Ad-Aware
Spybot
Spyware Blaster
Spyware Guard
DisSpy Lite
Avast! (for antivirus)

I have very few problems, just make sure you keep everything updated!!

I used to run both adaware and spybot S&D, but microsoft anti-spyware found other stuff that even both of those missed, and i've never had those two find something that microsoft missed. It just makes it easier.

AV: Avast
Spy: Spybot S&D
Fire: Zone Alarm

Second AVG and Spybot. Best free programs for what they do, Antivirus and spyware, malware.
I used to use Microsoft Antispy as well. But there was nothing in that program that I couldn't already do manually.

If you have a business I know McAfee and Trend Micro have great centralized antivirus and security features. Just found this great list.

For anti-virus I use Symantec Antivirus Corporate. Was using Norton, but ended up screwing up my outlook, and started to slow down my system.

Anti-spyware/maleware I just run Adaware and Spybot everyonce in a while, but honestly I don't get really any because I browse smartly and don't download and install progams willy-nilly. I do have Microsoft Defender installed, and is nice, not as intrusive as Microsoft Antispyware was, but just don't need to use it, or any of them, because of what I stated earlier.

Firewall, honestly I use the built-in one in XP and my linksys router. Anything else for me is just overkill (unless you know you are getting attacked), and I had huge issues with a POS setup setting folder access over a network.

If you have a Linksys router then you don't need any additional software firewall. That should solve a lot of your problems. You can turn off the Windows firewall and be completely safe (unless you don't trust your other computers behind the Linksys). I run a D-Link DI-624 and it provides all the protection I need for my LAN at home. With the Linksys in place you are free to share whatever you like. You don't need to worry about ports (maybe port 113) but that's about it. Oh, and you want to turn off ICMP requests from the router as well.

kapersky makes the best antivirus out there. Period. It catches more viruses than any other virus scanner, but it isn't free (Yes, I know there are ways of getting it "free" but I am too lazy ).

Personally I use avast! b/c it is free.

For firewalls, I just use Kerio Personal Firewall.

Nod32, from what I've heard, is the best anti-virus.

Outpost Pro 2 is the best firewall.

SpySweeper is the best anti-spyware.
