Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 "unstable," or so they say

Thread Starter
i just trashed my old Kubuntu stable <buggy> 5.10 and put on the new Ubuntu 6.06 unstable <perfect> and i gotta say, its pretty easy and sweet. 5.10 had a myriad of problems, including PCMCIA boot hangups and detection problems, and a bad sound driver that also caused boot to fail. And don't get me started on KDE's bugs. I think the layout and general desktop environment of KDE is better, but Gnome is just so much developed. Hell, even kate and kwrite would refuse to work sometimes!

The new release has none of the old bugs as far as I can see. Installation went without a hitch, just popped the CD in and an hour later I had Ubuntu on my system, PCMCIA, sound, video, everything. Easy nvidia driver install, nice Compiz script i found online, and half an hour later i had XGL/compiz. i've only this thing 2 days now, but still have yet to encounter a single bug or error.

Well done Ubuntu!

yeah for sure, i find Dapper so far to be way more stable than the final release of Breezy. At this point i'd say Dapper in the stage that its at, is already the 2nd greatest ubuntu release, in my opinion hoary is still the best, with Warty somewhere in there, and Breezy ... which was just a problem.

I've found the standard Ubuntu tends to be more stable than Kubuntu. Which is part of the reason I don't use Ubuntu; I don't mean to start a flame war or anything but my personal preference is not Gnome. Glad the new version is working for you, tho
