No love for the Z62F? (Warranty questions, too)

Thread Starter
There doesn't seem to be much talk going on around the Z62F. I've seen a few threads, but not what I expected. We're looking for a new lappy for the girlfriend as her HP has a broken power jack, again. I'm sick of fixing it.

So we've been shopping around and of course I checked out the Asus line again (W3J mine when released! Unless I fall for a MacBook Pro). The Z62F is priced very well IMO, but yet not a whole lot of love? I realize it's not quite as sexy as the W3V and it doesn't have the same graphics chipset, but otherwise...

I priced out a Duo 1.66 \ 40gb \ 512meg \ ABG WiFi \ DVD-RW \ etc etc for $1030.

I'm just curious to what the deal is with the Z62F. Like I said, it didn't really seem to make any waves over here.

Also, what is covered under Asus's extended warranty? IE, if the power supply (or jack....) were to go bad, are those covered? Battery replacement? I've not found anything regarding what is \ is-not covered.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time finding much information on the Z62F as well. I'm planning to buy one pretty soon, but I'm debating whether to wait for the Z62J to be released. From what I heard, the 7300 won't really change the fact that the Z62 can't play games, so I might just go ahead and get the Z62F.

I would suggest to wait till the new ASUS white box notebook that is coming out around MAY. because there are some model if (for example your lcd got damaged) you can replace with another a different brand such as Compal LCD screen. Intel is doing some kind of Interchangable parts for notebook.

Not only LCDs. also Keybaord, power adapter, optical drives and batteries will be interchangeble, it's call Common Building Blocks (CBB), more details here:

CBB will only put more restrictions on the quality and design ASUS has accustomed us to...
How creative can asus get with having to stay "common" on parts?
This will not help the the looks of the CBB built-on models...

Though I do like the option of changing to a different LCD... everything else, bah!

But the Z62J is worth waiting for if you want a little extra power to play some games.
Much better than integrated graphics for sure...

The main reason the Z62F has gotten little attention is because it's predeccessor, the Z63A, was a much sexier laptop. Asus people are acustomed to having the best looking laptops on the block, and the Z62F definitely doesn't fit in that role.

However, as far as the build quality and performance, it's an awesome notebook, and perfect for someone who doesn't play games and wants their laptop to be portable. 14" is the perfect size for a notebook.
