i guess it depends. on a desktop the right click is much more used imo, bc of the use of a mouse. on a laptop i actually prefer to use the touchpad for regular tap and drags and corner taps for alternate right-click functions even on windows machines. hell, i try and get ppl to use the touchpad for tapping instead of the left button anyways. if u can grasp that then why is the right button so hard to imagine being used on the pad too?

x1600 256mb is the best card in the macbook.
yeh, no doubt, bf2 is much more resource intensive than hl2.

How are these 3dmark scores? I saw them posted on the apple site. Don't know much about them!

1532 3DMarks
SM2.0 Score: 526
HDR/SM3.0 score: 572
CPU Score: 1794

Found this online. Are these good scores? I've only used 3DMark05, so I can't tell...

Here're my 3DMark06 scores:

1532 3DMarks
SM2.0 Score: 526
HDR/SM3.0 score: 572
CPU Score: 1794

This was on a 2.16GHz, 2Gig MBP. I ran Oblivion on it and it runs slow (10-20 fps) but I think it can be tweaked to run acceptably. I also ran Civilization IV and this game ran beautifully at 1440x900 (native res) with all settings set to max except for anti aliasing.

It appears we just posted the same thing! Weird!

I finally found a video of a game running after using boot camp.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted: http://madsenblog.dk/billeder/NFS.mov
Computer Specs: Mac Core Duo 20″ 2Ghz (1 gb ram)

Unfortunately, the user didn't post how much VRAM they had. But runs pretty damn well anyway.

I have mine overclocked and am running bf2 on high at 1024x768 w/ 2xaa. Dynamic light and shadows are set to low. It runs very smoothly.
My current clock setting of 400/360 also scored 3502 3d mark 05.

How far can the MBP be oc'ed? GPU wise.

How much hard drive space did you partition for WinXP? I have a MBP on order with a 100 GB drive.

Here's some more tests and comparisions, MacBook Pro XP vs. PC

Mine is up to 400/360 and I think it could go higher.
Started at 315/300.

I did a 15 gig partition. I don't plan on loading the windows side up.
Default was 5 gigs.
I have the 100gig hd also.

hmm, got me thinking...the MBP might be a better gamer w/ an sata expresscard, external 3.5" drive, and windows installed on the external (but i heard bootcamp only supports the internal drive options)...assuming windows would be able to recognize the drive during boot up. it's more of an at home kind of setup, but then again why would u be gaming w/o a full sized KB and mouse anyways?
Windows should be able to boot from an External, but the Startup Disk control for Windows doesn't recognise external boot volumes so you can't set one from within Windows.

Interesting...

But does anyone know why the acer substantially outperforms the MBP in the Doom 3 test?
They have identical specifications so its a bit wierd.
The MBP video card is underclock'd . Thats why.

As someone pointed out in another thread, however, one can download the Omega drivers and they should be able to bring the card up to speed.

I've compiled a list of all the games mentioned on the Apple Discussion Boards. Some may need tweaking, but the majority work fine.

Age of Empires III
America's Army
Battlefield 2
Call of Duty 2
City of Heroes
City of Villains
Civilization IV
Combat Flight Simulator 3
Counter-Strike Source
Day of Defeat Source
Everquest 2
F.E.A.R.
Far Cry
Flight Sim 2004 - Century of Flight
Guild Wars
Half-Life 2
Morrowind (Elder Scrolls 3)
Motocross Madness 2
Oblivion (Elder Scrolls 4)
Quake3
Star Wars Battlefront II
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006
Tomb Raider Legend Demo
Ultima Online
Unreal Tournament
UT2004
Wolfenstien Enemy Territory
World of Warcraft

Maybe a new thread could be started and users could post new games that work? Just a thought.

This is a tough decision, I must say...
I don't know about the Mac Book track pads...but I do know there are add-on programs for the PowerBooks that let you configure the trackpad in a number of ways. For example, I set mine up where a tap is the same as a right click - worked quite well.
