Its funny how far removed I am from the marketing side of the Dell business. For one thing, I know the products by their code names, not the marketing names. If you were to ask me what a "Zanzibar" notebook is and when it ships, I can tell you. : ) I think Zanzibar is an XPS that should be on the market in the next week. If you'd like, I can find the product features guide for it.
I just went to an Engineering meeting this week with Michael Dell. I haven't seen him at a meeting for about 5 years. He's really excited about purchasing Alienware. But, he didn't say whether or not were' going to produce products that would compete with Alienware. Although he did say they want to start selling better cutting edge technology and high end products, like $6 - $10K boxes. They've been focusing on low prices, now they want to shift to the latest technology and better quality. They will be offering different colored chassis options, like red and possibly airbrushed screen paintings. The 20.4" laptop you're talking about, I know it as "Greenland", has been in development for years. We're all hoping that crazy thing will ship soon so we don't have to work on it anymore. It weights 18 pounds and will be carried with a handle, like a briefcase. I think it's intended to be a portable gaming PC. I'm looking forward to hearing whether or not we'll get into tablet PCs.
Ill post more when I find more out!
