Specifications XPS M1710 - Page 13

Are you talking about the 3007WFP for 2299 CAD?
I thought it was much less than that like 1495 CAD? Can't recall exactly at this hour.

Well, I am looking at the page as we type, and methinks they did the balancing act. It shows as 2299 right now.

1495 would indeed be a cheapie-cheapie grab

May 11th is going to be a long wait now

I think at one point last month Dell had "8 days of deals" and that's when the 3007 hit an all time low. Hasn't gotten that low since. But it just shows, that we constantly have to keep our eyes open on Dell prices, as they fluctuate so often (even within the same site - I saved $150 on my 2405 by picking it from the list of all monitors instead of the front page).

Agreed. However, after our conversation I have learned that I have purchased a very nice laptop. That will console me as the days pass. And before I know it, it will be here, and I will be doing things like completely re-installing the OS, and latest drivers etc. However, I am happy to see benchmarks out there already. Will be good to see if the 1710 is actually half-way decent out of the box for a change.

And what do you know, they moved up the release of Merom

http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/04/19/in...ore_inq3_2006/

Which means 64 bit and 20%+ performance is only 1 quarter away! Drop in compatibility with Yonah Fun fun!

I'm sorry if I was unclear, but I think this actually is a software solution: "turns the Integrated...". That's how the Dell rep explained it anyway, and it fits with what zyb said too.

Sorry to disappoint... it disappoints me too. And I'll also wait for an expresscard solution, hopefully with DDLive too. Then I won't mind too much....

Actually the next generation Centrino (with faster FSB, new chipset, and next generation wireless) may not be available until near the middle of 07. Intel has slated availablity as H1 of 07 - which means sometime in the first half of the year.

Thats an even better reason to buy now and regret later

Besides G80 wont be true unified shader (and as such not genuine dx10)
as nvidia has decided that gradual change is better (and follow ati on this)
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/d...418170458.html .

This means they understand that transition to dx10 is not gonna happen
overnight. So ill get my dx10 laptop in 3 years and say the same thing bout
dx11

Hmm. Given the fact that the M1710 was release only after 4 months of Core Duo, I don't think we should necessarily expect an immediately available DX10/G80+Merom solution from Dell. So M1710 is still a good buy right now.

That's how I'm trying to argue myself into not regretting ordering one....

Good to hear that because I am ordering today!

Well, I ordered yesterday and I console myself with the following:
- When Merom is available, a directly replacement of Yonah is possible
- At that point, a direct replacement of the T2x to the T5x (dual 64 bit) is also possible
- AND, while we are about it, there is a strong chance will be able to go to a Dx10 (g80) card as well.

With the existing ability to put 4GB in this puppy (although I would wait for Vista for RAM prices to fall) I think this is the best future proofed lappy to have come along in a very, very long time.
