AVG works well. Some detractors say it doesn't catch everything but I haven't ever had a problem with it myself. It's the least resource-hogging and updates pretty much daily.

I personally like Avast Anti-Virus better. Registration is free, been using it for around two years.

I use Spybot- Search and Destroy, CCleaner, and a couple others. those two can be found on www.downloads.com.

I prefer AVG over Avast simply because avg runs in a smaller footprint. AVP is also a good anti-virus that I use daily.

I should probably mind my own business, but l think there should be a forum based on anti-virus protection. It's just as vital as any other part of a notebook

Thats antispyware, not antivirus.

Under free Antivirus, I prefer Avast. One reason is the free version of AVG can not handle taking care of a virus in a single file, it requires a full system scan in order to do anything. At least, that's how the version I used worked, maybe they've improved it since then.

I have been using Avast without any issues. Originally I used AVG but found some report that showed Avast having a better detection rate.

I use AVG and never had a problem with it. I never used Avast but I have heard good things about it.
